HOW TO USE
FILLING TANK WITH WATER
- Turn OFF (
) and unplug the unit from the power source. - Place the steamer on a flat, level surface. CAUTION: If the unit has been in use, allow it to cool (5 minutes minimum cooling before removing the Water Tank and adding water).
- Remove the water tank by grabbing onto the sides and pulling outwards; see Figure 1.

- Remove the rubber cap from the top of the Water Tank and fill with distilled water from a bottle or cup. Replace the rubber cap on top of the Water Tank. Do not overfill the water tank. NOTE: In order to minimize potential mineral build-up and prolong the life of your steamer, distilled or de-mineralized water is recommended when filling the reservoir.
- Replace the water tank by pushing firmly into the unit.
WARNING – Take care not to pinch your fingers or hand when replacing the water tank into unit.
FABRIC STEAMING
CAUTION: When steaming any material for the first time, it is recommended that you test on a small inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not use on synthetic fabrics such as 100% nylon or polyester, or other steam-sensitive materials.
NOTE: Be sure the Water Tank has already been filled before following these steps.
- Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
- Power on and wait approximately 30 seconds until the Steam Status Light turns from red to green, indicating the unit is ready to use.
- Direct the steam nozzle towards the fabric material you wish to steam. See below for additional tips and procedures.
CAUTION: Always be sure that the Steam Nozzle is pointed in a safe direction (away from yourself, other people, pets, and plants) when steaming.
STEAMING GARMENTS:
- Hang garment from a clean, rust-free hanger.
- Direct the steam nozzle towards the bottom of the garment. Steam will rise along the inside and outside of the material, removing wrinkles. Slowly slide the Steam Nozzle upward from the bottom to the top of the garment.
- Direct the steam nozzle away from the garment and smooth material with your free hand.
- Repeat as necessary until the garment is fresh and wrinkle-free.
GENERAL STEAMING TIPS:
- For the most effective results, hold the Steam Nozzle within 1/2” of fabrics or press it directly against surfaces.
- Curtains and draperies can be steamed while still hanging.
- To remove wrinkles from towels, handkerchiefs, and napkins, drape them over a rod or towel rack and gently steam them.
- Heavier fabrics may require repeated steaming to achieve the desired results.
- To remove exceptionally stubborn wrinkles, steam both sides of the fabric.
- Be especially careful when steaming any delicate fabrics that may be damaged by heat or water spotting.
- When you are finished using your steamer, immediately turn off and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Refer to STORAGE & CARE for proper storage and maintenance procedures.
STORAGE & CARE
PROPER STORAGE
Preparing your steamer for storage is quick and simple. When you have completed your tasks, follow the steps listed below.
- Push the Power ON/OFF Button (Steam Status Light will turn off) and unplug the power cord.
- Allow the unit time to cool (at least 30 minutes).
- Remove the water tank and drain any remaining water into a sink or tub to minimize potential mineral build-up. Replace the water tank when done.
- Wrap the cord with the supplied “hook and loop” strap when storing. Do not wrap the cord around the product.
- Store steamer in a cool, dry location.
MINERAL BUILD-UP
A common maintenance need for steam appliances is the removal of build-up caused by high mineral content in many municipal water supplies. This mineral build-up may cause the unit to spit water, limit the effectiveness, and reduce the life of your steamer.
The best way to minimize mineral build-up is to use distilled or de-mineralized water when using your steamer. In addition, it is recommended that the cleaning procedure below be followed at least once a month to remove any deposits that form. This mineral build-up may cause the unit to spit water, limit the effectiveness, and reduce the life of your steamer.
TO REMOVE MINERAL BUILD-UP:
- Follow STEPS 1-3 under the Proper Storage section above. However, do not replace the Water Tank at the end of STEP 3.
- Fill Measuring Cup (not included) with 1 oz (29.6 ml) distilled water and 1 oz (29.6 ml) vinegar.
- Slowly pour water-vinegar solution into the Water Tank through Fill Hole, then replace Water Tank Cap.
- Plug in the power cord and press the ON/OFF Button to turn the unit on. Once heated, press the Steam Button to allow the unit to produce steam for 1 minute, then turn the unit off.
- Allow the unit to sit for approximately 30 minutes, then press the ON/OFF Button to turn the unit on again and repeat Step 4 above. Repeat until the remainder of the Water Tank’s contents are steamed out.
- Once the water tank is drained, turn the unit off and refill the tank with 10 oz (295 ml) of fresh distilled water. Allow the unit to steam until the Water Tank is empty. Repeat as necessary until vinegar odor dissipates.
- Turn the unit OFF, unplug the power cord, and store the steamer in a cool, dry location.
IMPORTANT: On average, it is recommended that you follow the mineral build-up removal procedure once per month (if the unit is used once every week). More frequent use may require following the procedure more often to keep your steamer operating at full potential. Do not exceed 1 hour of use without cleaning out mineral build-up.

Steamfast Virtuoso Handheld Garment Steamer-FAQs
How long does the Steamfast Virtuoso Handheld Garment Steamer take to heat up?
The Steamfast Virtuoso handheld steamer warms up very quickly, reaching steaming temperature in about 30 seconds after being plugged in and turned on. A status light typically switches from red to green to indicate that the unit is ready to use, allowing you to start steam-ironing clothes within moments rather than waiting for a long preheat period.
How much steam time does the Virtuoso provide on a full water tank?
With its 10-ounce removable water tank, the Steamfast Virtuoso handheld garment steamer delivers around 15 minutes of continuous steam before needing a refill. This duration is usually sufficient for steaming several garments like shirts, dresses, or light fabrics in one session.
What fabrics can you safely steam with the Virtuoso?
The Virtuoso steamer works well on natural and blended fabrics such as cotton, linen, wool blends, and some synthetics. Because steam is gentler than direct heat from an iron, it’s excellent for fabrics that wrinkle easily. Always check the garment care label and test a small area first, as extremely delicate materials can be sensitive to heat and moisture.
How do you use the Steamfast Virtuoso handheld steamer on clothing?
To steam garments, hang them on a hanger and point the steam nozzle toward the fabric. Begin at the bottom and move the steamer upward in slow, steady motions so the steam penetrates and relaxes wrinkles. Keep the nozzle a short distance from the fabric for best results and avoid holding it in one spot too long.
Is the Virtuoso handheld steamer suitable for travel?
Yes, the Steamfast Virtuoso handheld steamer is compact, lightweight, and portable, making it a solid choice for travel or quick touch-ups at home. Its short heat-up time and relatively long steam duration for its size mean you can freshen outfits on the go without lugging a full-size iron or steamer.
What safety features does the Virtuoso include?
The Virtuoso handheld steamer is equipped with a 20-minute automatic shut-off that activates when steam is continuously produced, helping prevent overheating. Additionally, a built-in status light shows when the unit is hot, and users are advised to avoid touching the steam nozzle or hot surfaces to prevent burns.
How do you fill and maintain the water tank?
Before filling, unplug and let the unit cool. Remove the water tank and open the cap to fill it with water; distilled or de-mineralized water is recommended to minimize mineral buildup. After filling, replace the cap securely and insert the tank back into the unit. Regularly draining and using distilled water helps maintain steam quality.
How can you reduce mineral buildup in the Virtuoso steamer?
To reduce mineral buildup that can affect performance, use distilled water instead of tap water whenever possible. If buildup occurs, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions, which generally involve flushing with a water-and-vinegar solution and then steaming out the mixture. This keeps the steam flow consistent and prolongs the steamer’s lifespan.
Can the Steamfast Virtuoso remove odors from fabrics?
While its primary function is wrinkle removal, the high-temperature steam can also help refresh fabrics and reduce light odors because heat and steam loosen trapped particles. It’s not a full deodorizing treatment like washing, but many users find that steam helps freshen items between washes.
How powerful is the Steamfast Virtuoso compared to other handheld steamers?
The Steamfast Virtuoso packs about 1000 watts of power into its handheld design, which is relatively high for this category. This robust power output helps it produce steady and strong steam, making it more effective than some lower-wattage handheld models for tackling wrinkles and refreshing fabrics.
