HOW TO USE

FILLING TANK WITH WATER

  1. Turn OFF (Power button ) and unplug the unit from the power source.
  2. Place the steamer on its side on a flat, heat-resistant, level surface. CAUTION: If the unit has been in use, allow it to cool (5 minutes minimum cooling before removing the Water Tank and adding water).
  3. Remove the Water Tank by pulling the Water Tank downwards away from the unit; see Figure 1.Steamfast Nomad Handheld Travel Garment Steamer 2
  4. Remove the rubber cap from the top of the Water Tank and fill it with distilled water from a bottle or cup. Replace the rubber cap on top of the Water Tank. Do not overfill the water tank. NOTE: In order to extend the life of your unit and keep it functioning at its maximum potential, it is highly recommended that distilled water be used in the Water Tank. CAUTION: Burn Hazard. Using tap water could result in mineral buildup, which could block the steam outlets, causing this unit to spit or spurt hot water. Follow the cleaning instructions provided.
  5. Replace the water tank by pushing firmly up into the unit. Always place the steamer securely on the side when not in use. Do not rest the steamer on other surfaces or attempt to stand the steamer on the Steam Nozzle or Base.

WARNING – Take care not to pinch your fingers or hand when replacing the water tank into unit.

FABRIC STEAMING

CAUTION: When steaming any material for the first time, it is recommended that you test on a small inconspicuous area before proceeding. Do not use on synthetic fabrics such as 100% nylon or polyester, or other steam-sensitive materials.

NOTE: Be sure the Water Tank has already been filled before following these steps.

  1. Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet.
  2. Power on and wait approximately 30 seconds until the Steam Status Light turns from red to green, indicating the unit is ready to use.
  3. Direct the steam nozzle towards the fabric material you wish to steam. See below for additional tips and procedures.

WARNING: To reduce the risk of steam injury, always be sure that the Steam Nozzle is pointed in a safe direction (away from yourself, other people, and pets) when steaming.

STEAMING GARMENTS:

  • Hang the garment from a clean, rust-free hanger.
  • Direct the steam nozzle towards the bottom of the garment. Steam will rise along the inside and outside of the material, removing wrinkles. Slowly slide the Steam Nozzle upward from the bottom to the top of the garment.
  • Direct the steam nozzle away from the garment and smooth material with your free hand.
  • Repeat as necessary until the garment is fresh and wrinkle-free.

GENERAL STEAMING TIPS:

  • For the most effective results, hold the Steam Nozzle within 1/2” of fabrics or press it directly against surfaces.
  • Curtains and draperies can be steamed while still hanging.
  • To remove wrinkles from towels, handkerchiefs, and napkins, drape them over a rod or towel rack and gently steam them.
  • Heavier fabrics may require repeated steaming to achieve the desired results.
  • To remove exceptionally stubborn wrinkles, steam both sides of the fabric.
  • Be especially careful when steaming any delicate fabrics that may be damaged by heat or water spotting.
  • When you are finished using your steamer, immediately turn off and unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Refer to STORAGE & CARE for proper storage and maintenance procedures.

STORAGE & CARE

Preparing your steamer for storage is quick and simple. When you have completed your tasks, follow the steps listed below.

  1. Push the Power ON/OFF Button (Steam Status Light will turn off) and unplug the power cord.
  2. Allow unit time to cool (at least 30 minutes).
  3. Remove the water tank and drain any remaining water into a sink or tub to minimize potential mineral build-up. Replace the water tank when done.
  4. Wrap the cord with the supplied “hook and loop” strap when storing. Do not wrap the cord around the product.
  5. Store steamer in a cool, dry location.

MINERAL BUILD-UP

A common maintenance need for steam appliances is the removal of build-up caused by high mineral content in many municipal water supplies. This mineral build-up may cause the unit to spit water, which can result in burn injuries, and limit the effectiveness and reduce the life of your steamer.

The best way to minimize mineral build-up is to use distilled or de-mineralized water when using your steamer. In addition, it is recommended that the cleaning procedure below be followed at least once a month to remove any deposits that form. This will help to extend the life of your steamer and keep it functioning at its maximum potential.

TO REMOVE MINERAL BUILD-UP:

  1. Follow STEPS 1-3 under the Proper Storage section above. However, do not replace the water tank at the end of STEP 3.
  2. Fill Measuring Cup (not included) with 1 oz. (29.6 ml) distilled water and 1 oz. (29.6 ml) vinegar. Never add soap, detergent, or other cleaners, as this could cause damage to the product.
  3. Slowly pour water-vinegar solution into the Water Tank through the Fill Hole, then replace the Water Tank Cap.
  4. Plug in the power cord and press the ON/OFF Button to turn the unit on. Once heated, press the Steam Button to allow the unit to produce steam for 1 minute, then turn the unit off.
  5. Allow the unit to sit for approximately 30 minutes, then press the ON/OFF Button to turn the unit on again and repeat Step 4 above. Repeat until the remainder of the Water Tank’s contents are steamed out.
  6. Once the water tank is drained, turn unit off and refill the tank with 5 oz. (148 ml) of fresh distilled water. Allow the unit to steam until the Water Tank is empty. Repeat as necessary until the vinegar odor dissipates.
  7. Turn the unit OFF, unplug the power cord, and store the steamer in a cool, dry location.

IMPORTANT: On average, it is recommended that you follow the mineral build-up removal procedure once per month (if the unit is used once every week). More frequent use may require following the procedure more often to keep your steamer operating at full potential. Do not exceed 1 hour of use without cleaning out mineral build-up. Failure to remove mineral build-up can result in clogged outlets and hot water spraying or spewing.

Steamfast Nomad Handheld Travel Garment Steamer-FAQs

How quickly does the Steamfast Nomad travel steamer heat up?

The Steamfast Nomad handheld travel steamer typically heats up in about 30 seconds once it’s plugged in and switched on. A ready-to-steam indicator light lets you know when it has reached temperature. This rapid heat-up makes it ideal for quick wrinkle removal and last-minute outfit touch-ups, especially when you’re traveling or in a hurry.

How long can you steam clothes on a full tank?

The Nomad travel steamer usually provides several minutes of continuous steam on a full water tank, which is sufficient to refresh and de-wrinkle multiple garments. While exact steam time can vary with water level and fabric thickness, it’s designed for quick refreshes rather than extended heavy-duty steam sessions, making it convenient for travel or routine garment care.

Is the Steamfast Nomad suitable for all fabrics?

The Nomad steamer works well on a wide range of fabrics like cotton, linen, polyester blends, and wool blends, helping to smooth wrinkles gently. Because it uses steam instead of direct heat, it’s safer on delicate fabrics than traditional irons. Always check garment care labels before steaming and test on a small hidden area if you’re unsure about a specific material.

How do you use the Nomad steamer on clothes?

To use the Nomad steamer, hang your garment on a hanger and hold the steamer a short distance from the fabric. Move it slowly along the surface from top to bottom so the steam can soften wrinkles and relax fibers. Keep the steamer moving steadily and avoid pressing it directly on delicate areas to prevent water spots or heat sensitivity.

Can the Nomad handheld steamer freshen clothes besides removing wrinkles?

Yes, the high-temperature steam from the Nomad can help freshen clothes and reduce light odors because the heat loosens trapped particles. While it won’t replace a full wash, many users find that steaming helps garments smell cleaner between washes and gives clothes a just-washed feel when you’re short on time or traveling without laundry access.

Is this steamer good for travel?

The Steamfast Nomad is specifically designed for travel. Its compact, lightweight form factor fits easily into luggage, and the quick heat-up time means you can steam clothes in hotel rooms, guest houses, or even at the office before events. Unlike full-size steamers or irons, the Nomad’s portability makes it a practical choice for people on the go.

How do you fill the water tank and maintain it?

Before filling, make sure the steamer is unplugged and cooled down. Remove the water tank if it’s detachable or open the fill cap if fixed, then add fresh water up to the indicated level. Using distilled water can help prevent mineral buildup. After steaming, drain any remaining water to prolong the unit’s life and maintain consistent steam performance.

Are there any safety features on the Nomad steamer?

The Nomad handheld steamer includes built-in safety features such as an automatic shut-off that engages if the unit overheats or runs too long without adequate water. It also uses insulated handles and a stable base to help prevent accidental tipping. Always follow safety instructions and avoid contact with hot surfaces to reduce burn risk.

What are common issues with handheld garment steamers?

Common issues with handheld steamers like the Nomad include occasional hot water sputtering, reduced steam output due to mineral buildup, and shorter steam duration on very thick fabrics. These can often be reduced by using distilled water and regular cleaning. Most performance issues relate to maintenance rather than design flaws, and proper care keeps the steamer working well.

How does the Nomad compare to full-size steamers or irons?

The Nomad excels in portability, speed, and convenience but may not match the deep-press performance of full-size steamers or traditional irons for very heavy, thick fabrics or intricate creases. For everyday garment care, travel, and quick refreshes, it provides an effective alternative. If you need crisp creases or intense pressing, a dedicated iron might still be preferable.
