IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

1. Read all instructions.
2. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or a lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are closely supervised and instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
4. Do not touch hot surfaces or hot water. Use handles or knobs. Care must be taken since burns can occur from touching hot parts or from spilled hot liquid.
5. To protect against fire, electric shock, and personal injury, do not immerse the cord, plug, power base, or electric kettle in water or other liquid.
6. Unplug from the outlet when the kettle is not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged supply cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Supply cord replacement and repairs must be conducted by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. Contact Customer Service for information on examination, repair, or adjustment as outlined in the Limited Warranty.
8. The use of attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
9. Do not use outdoors.
10. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter, or touch hot surfaces, including the stove.
11. Do not place an electric kettle on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven.
12. To disconnect electric kettle, turn the control to OFF and then remove the plug from the wall outlet. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull from the outlet. Never pull from the power cord.
13. Do not use the appliance for anything other than its intended use.
14. Do not use for anything other than heating water. Other liquids or food will contaminate the interior and void the warranty.
15. Do not allow the kettle to boil dry.
16. To avoid circuit overload, do not operate another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit.
17. The heater may remain hot after the kettle is turned off.
18. WARNING: If the kettle is overfilled, boiling water may be ejected.
19. WARNING: Scalding may occur if the lid is opened during the heating cycle.
20. Be certain the kettle lid is securely in place during operation and when pouring hot water. Do not use force when placing the lid on the kettle.
21. Use only the power base provided.
22. Do not clean glass with cleansers, steel wool pads, or other abrasive material.

This appliance is intended for household use only.

WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard: This appliance is provided with a grounded (3-prong) plug to reduce the risk of electric shock. The plug fits only one way into a grounded outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug by modifying the plug in any way or by using an adapter. If the plug does not fit into the outlet, have an electrician replace the outlet.

The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary, an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the appliance. The extension cord must be a grounding-type, 3-wire cord. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop, where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over. To avoid an electrical circuit overload, do not use another high-wattage appliance on the same circuit with this appliance.

How to Use

WARNING: Burn Hazard. Do not overfill kettle. Boiling water may spit out of the spout.

Before first use: Press Lid-Opening Button to lift Lid and fill Kettle with water to MAX fill line. Press the lid down until it locks in place. Place the Kettle on the Base; press the Power Switch down to turn the Kettle on. The kettle will bring water to a boil, then shut off automatically. Discard water and repeat 2 times, rinsing out the kettle each time. The kettle is now ready for use.

1. Press the Lid-Opening Button to lift the lid and fill the kettle with the desired amount of water. Do not fill above the MAX 1.7 L fill line or below the MIN 0.5 L fill line.
2. Press the lid down until it locks into place, and place the Kettle on the Base.
3. Plug into the outlet.
4. Press the Power Switch down, and the purple Water Temperature Indicator Light will illuminate while heating. The Water Temperature Indicator Light located inside the Kettle will change color as the water heats. See the chart for the color of light and the temperature of water. The kettle will automatically shut off when the water has boiled, and the Power Switch will move up to OFF . Unplug.

NOTES:

• Only use the kettle to heat water. If the Kettle is used to heat other liquids, such as coffee or tea, the warranty will be voided.
• When filled past the MIN 0.5 L fill line, the Kettle will automatically shut off 30–90 seconds after water boils.

NOTE: These temperature settings can vary depending on a number of factors, such as altitude, impurities in water, and the amount of water in the Kettle. Actual temperature may differ by ±5° degrees.

If Kettle Floor Discolors: It is normal for stainless steel heating elements to discolor. This does not affect the performance of Kettle. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or cleaners since this may damage the stainless steel surface.

If Kettle Boils Dry: The heating element is protected by two automatic safety devices. If your Kettle is accidentally switched on without being filled with water, or is allowed to boil dry, the Kettle will automatically switch off. You should:

• Lift the Power Switch up to turn OFF , unplug, and wait about 20 minutes for the element to cool down.
• Refill the Kettle; then use it as normal and check that the Kettle functions correctly.

Kettle Shutoff: This Kettle is designed to automatically shut off 30 to 90 seconds after water boils.

If the kettle does not work: Make these simple checks before visiting hamiltonbeach.com:

• Have you turned Power Switch down to the ON (l) position?
• If the kettle heats but does not boil, it might need descaling.
• Has Kettle been accidentally switched on without being filled with water or allowed to boil dry? Lift Power Switch to turn OFF , wait 20 minutes, and try again.
• Is the cord firmly plugged into the outlet, and the kettle firmly seated in the base?

Anti-Scale Nonremovable Mesh Filter

Scale is caused by lime and calcium in hard water. The mesh filter will prevent these suspended particles from being poured out of the kettle. The filter should be cleaned periodically to ensure optimum performance. To clean the nonremovable filter, unplug the kettle and allow it to cool. Rinse the filter under running water and brush with a soft brush. An old, clean toothbrush works well.

Care and Cleaning

WARNING: Electrical Shock Hazard. Do not immerse the kettle, power base, or plug in water or other liquid.

WARNING: Burn Hazard. Do not use abrasive scouring pads or powders since they may scratch the smooth surface of the kettle, causing the glass to break suddenly during use or cleaning.

To remove discoloration or scale/lime deposit from the inside bottom of the Kettle:

1. Unplug.
2.  Pour 1 tablespoon white vinegar and 1/4 cup (59 mL) water into the Kettle and let stand 10 minutes. OR Place 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 mL) cream of tartar (available in the spice aisle of the grocery store) into the Kettle. Then fill Kettle 1/2 full with water. Plug into the outlet, press the Power Switch down, and bring to a boil. Lift the Power Switch up to turn OFF. Unplug and let cool. Rinse several times with clean tap water.
3. Rub the Kettle floor with a paper towel. Remove the paper towel and vinegar.
4. Wash with soap and water, and then rinse and dry. Tip: To avoid scale/lime deposit buildup, empty the Kettle after each use.
5. For easy storage, the cord can be wrapped under the Power Base.

Limited Warranty

This warranty applies to products purchased and used in the U.S. and Canada. This is the only express warranty for this product and is in lieu of any other warranty or condition.

This product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of original purchase in Canada and one (1) year from the date of original purchase in the U.S. During this period, your exclusive remedy is replacement of this product or any component found to be defective, at our option; however, you are responsible for all costs associated with our returning a product or component under this warranty to you. If the product or component is unavailable, we will replace it with a similar one of equal or greater value.

This warranty does not cover glass, filters, wear from normal use, use not in conformity with the printed directions, or damage to the product resulting from accident, alteration, abuse, or misuse. This warranty extends only to the original consumer purchaser or gift recipient. Keep the original sales receipt, as proof of purchase is required to make a warranty claim. This warranty is void if the product is used for other than single-family household use or subjected to any voltage and waveform other than as specified on the rating label (e.g., 120V ~ 60 Hz).

We exclude all claims for special, incidental, and consequential damages caused by breach of express or implied warranty. All liability is limited to the amount of the purchase price. Every implied warranty, including any statutory warranty or condition of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, is disclaimed except to the extent prohibited by law, in which case such warranty or condition is limited to the duration of this written warranty.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights. You may have other legal rights that vary depending on where you live. Some states or provinces do not allow limitations on implied warranties or special, incidental, or consequential damages, so the foregoing limitations may not apply to you.
