Singer 1120 Mechanical Sewing Machine-FAQs
What is the purpose of a mechanical sewing machine?
Mechanical sewing machines are designed to stitch materials, mainly fabric, together using a needle and thread, reducing the need for manual sewing.
Can I use any type of thread with a Singer sewing machine?
For optimal results, use high-quality threads like Gutermann, Coats & Clark, or Mettler. These ensure better stitch quality, seam strength, and project durability.
How do I create a hem with a sewing machine?
To hem, fold the fabric’s edge once, then fold it again to enclose the cut edge. Stitch along the fold to secure it and prevent unraveling.
What is a spool pin, and what is its function?
A spool pin is a small rod on the sewing machine that holds the thread spool in place during sewing. It is designed to fit various spool sizes and types.
How do I adjust the tension on my sewing machine?
Thread the needle and bobbin, then test the seam on a sample fabric. Adjust the upper-tension assembly until you achieve balanced stitches.
What should I do if my sewing machine isn’t sewing correctly?
Common issues like thread breakage or tangling can result from improper threading, dull needles, or incorrect tension. Inspect the thread path, use quality thread, and ensure proper tension to resolve the problem.
Which is better: mechanical or automatic sewing machines?
Mechanical sewing machines are ideal for beginners who prefer manual control, while automatic machines offer convenience with self-adjusting features. Choose based on your skill level and needs.
