  1. Read all instructions.
  2. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or a lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are closely supervised and instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  4. Use the appliance only for its intended use.
  5. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not immerse the appliance in water or other liquids.
  6. Always turn the appliance off 1 before plugging or unplugging it from the electrical outlet. Never pull on the cord to disconnect the appliance from the electrical outlet; instead, grasp the plug and pull on it to disconnect the appliance.
  7. Do not let the cord touch hot surfaces. Let the appliance cool completely before putting it away. Coil the cord loosely around the appliance for storage.
  8. Always disconnect the appliance from the electrical outlet before filling the appliance with water, emptying the water from the appliance, and when the appliance is not in use.
  9. Always close the filling aperture when operating the appliance.
  10. To reduce the risk of contact with hot water emitted from steam vents, check the appliance before each use by holding it away from the body and operating the steam button.
  11. Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or in the event the appliance has been dropped or damaged, or there are visible signs of damage, or it is leaking. To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not disassemble the appliance. Take it to a qualified serviceman for examination and repair. 14. Do not leave the appliance unattended while it is connected to an electrical outlet.
  15. Burns can occur from touching steam holes, hot metal parts, hot water, or steam. Use caution when you turn a steamer upside down—there might be hot water in the reservoir.
  16. To avoid a circuit overload, do not operate an appliance on the same circuit with another high-wattage appliance.
  17. If an extension cord is necessary, a cord with an ampere rating equal to or greater than the maximum rating of the appliance shall be used. A cord rated for less amperage can result in a risk of fire or electric shock due to overheating. Care shall be taken to arrange the cord so that it cannot be pulled or tripped over.

How to Steam

WARNING: Burn Hazard. Steam is hot. Always make sure the unit is OFF when assembling attachments. Avoid contact with escaping steam.

NOTES:

  • To avoid garment damage, check the garment label before using the Handheld Steamer. The label inside the clothing should recommend fabric care instructions.
  • Steaming garments will give a relaxed, not pressed, look.
  • Do not use the steamer if the garment label has this symbol 2.

Before first use: Press the Steam Button 2 or 3 times to remove any sediment from the Steamer. The steamer is now ready to steam fabric.

  1. To remove the Water Reservoir, press the Water Reservoir Release Buttons located on each side of the Water Reservoir and pull straight out.
  2. Pull up on the Water Reservoir Fill Cap and fill the Water Reservoir with cold water to the MAX Fill Line. Do not overfill.
  3. Slide the Water Reservoir onto the Base until it clicks into place.
  4. Plug into the outlet.
  5. Power Indicator Light blinks while heating up. The steamer is ready to use in about 20 seconds or once the Power Indicator Light stays on.
  6. Press and hold the Steam Button for steady steaming or press the Steam Button several times for bursts of steam.
  7. For steady steam or bursts, always hold the Steamer by the handle in an upright position close to the fabric.
  8. Carefully move the steamer up and down over wrinkled areas. Do not hold the Steamer in one spot for any length of time; this may cause damage to the fabric. If using the Fabric Brush attachment, lightly brush the fabric while steaming (to improve wrinkle release).
  9. Always keep water above the MIN Fill Line. To refill the water reservoir to continue steaming, unplug and cool for 5 minutes before adding water.
  10. When steaming is complete, unplug and cool completely.
  11. Always remove the Water Reservoir and empty the water after each use. Store upright.
  12. To attach the Removable Fabric Brush, align the Fabric Brush with the tab down over the Steamer Plate and push to snap on. To remove, hold a finger behind the Fabric Brush tab and push forward.

Steamer Tips

  • To avoid garment damage, check the garment label for fabric content and any steaming instructions.
  • Hang garments on a plastic hanger for easier steaming. Wooden hangers will get damaged if used for steaming clothes.
  • Wait 10 minutes before wearing your steamed garment or storing it in a closet.
  • When steaming, touching fabrics lightly with a Fabric Brush will help in wrinkle removal. It is important to make contact with the garment and/or fabric when using the Fabric Brush.
  • For more difficult wrinkles, try steaming from the underside of the fabric. This allows fibers in fabric to relax.
  • Pants are more easily steamed upside down, with pants hanging from the cuffs.

Care and Cleaning

WARNING: Electrical Shock Hazard. Disconnect power before cleaning. Do not immerse the cord, plug, or base in any liquid.

  1. Unplug. Allow the steamer to cool completely.
  2. Remove the water reservoir and drain all water.
  3. Slide the Water Reservoir onto the Base until it clicks into place. Store Steamer upright with Power Cord wrapped around Base.

To Remove Minerals and Sediment from the Steamer

  1. Add 1/2 cup (118 ml) white vinegar to the Removable Water Reservoir and follow “How to Steam” steps 1-5. Press and hold or pulse the Steam button until the Water Reservoir is almost empty. Do not steam clothes with vinegar in the Water Reservoir.
  2. Cool completely and empty the Water Reservoir. Rinse the Water Reservoir and add 1/2 cup (118 ml) of water. Repeat “How to Steam” to remove any remaining vinegar in the Steamer.

Troubleshooting

The steamer is not steaming.

  • No water in the Water Reservoir. Add cold water to the MAX Fill Line and follow the “How to Steam” instructions.
  • Steamer is not plugged into an outlet. Plug into the outlet.

It is designed for quick wrinkle removal on garments, curtains, and upholstery, while remaining compact and convenient for travel or small-space storage.

How long does the Hamilton Beach 11556F take to heat up?

This handheld garment steamer heats up quickly, usually in around 20 to 30 seconds, making it practical for fast touch-ups before work or travel. Its rapid start-up is one reason users choose it over traditional irons for everyday wrinkle removal and fabric refreshing.

Is the Hamilton Beach 11556F good for delicate fabrics?

Yes, the Hamilton Beach 11556F can work well on many delicate fabrics when used properly. Steam is generally gentler than direct ironing, though checking garment care labels first is important. It is especially useful for refreshing lightweight clothing, reducing wrinkles, and maintaining the fabric’s appearance safely.

Can the Hamilton Beach 11556F replace a traditional iron?

The Hamilton Beach 11556F can replace an iron for many casual steaming needs, especially for removing light wrinkles and refreshing clothes. However, it may not create sharp creases or pressed finishes like a traditional iron, so some users prefer both appliances for different garment care tasks.

How much continuous steam does the Hamilton Beach 11556F provide?

This handheld steamer provides up to about 15 minutes of continuous steam, which is typically enough for a few garments per fill. That makes it suitable for quick sessions, daily clothing touch-ups, and small steaming jobs without frequent interruptions for refilling.

How easy is it to clean and maintain the Hamilton Beach 11556F?
