Graco 41413ZOL Baby Car Seat
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
No car seat can guarantee protection from injury in every situation, but proper use helps reduce the risk of serious injury or death.
Safety First Check List
- Read and understand the instruction manual and car seat labels.
- Use car seat rear-facing only.
- Do not use it in the vehicle seat with an airbag.
- Secure children in the back seat whenever possible.
- Never leave a child unattended.
- Install the car seat securely.
- Only use a Vanté base when using a car seat/carrier with a base.
- Do not use after the date shown on the back of the car seat.
- Do not allow anyone (babysitter, relatives, etc.) to use a car seat without first understanding all instructions.
WARNINGS – Prevent serious injury or death:
- Failure to follow these instructions and car seat labels can result in a child striking the vehicle’s interior during a sudden stop or crash. Secure child restraint with a vehicle seat belt as shown in this manual.
- Use car seat rear-facing only. Serious crippling injury or death can result if the infant faces in front of the vehicle.
- The vehicle seat belt system MUST hold the car seat securely. Not all vehicle seat belts can be used with a car seat. If the vehicle seat belt does not hold the car seat securely, read “Vehicle Seat Belts”
section. - Strangulation Hazard: The child can strangle in loose harness straps. Never leave a child in a carrier when straps are loose or undone.
- Fall Hazard: The child’s movement can slide carrier. Never place the carrier near the edges of countertops, tables, or other elevated surfaces.
- Suffocation Hazard: Infant carriers can roll over on soft surfaces and suffocate children. Never place the carrier on beds, sofas, or other soft surfaces.

VEHICLE SEAT BELTS
To provide the best installation of the car seat:
- Read the vehicle owner’s manual regarding car seat installation and seat belt use with car seats.
- Follow all instruction labels on the vehicle seat belt and car seat.
If a car seat is not held securely after following instructions in this manual, vehicle seat belt labels, and vehicle owner’s manual:
- Move the car seat to another seating location and try again, or
- Contact the vehicle dealer for possible seat belt modification parts.
Belts Forward of Seat Crease
Vehicle seat belts located forward of the seat crease may not securely hold the car seat. Check the vehicle owner’s manual or see the vehicle dealer for car seat installation requirements.
- If approved for use with a car seat, install the car seat and check for secure installation by pulling the car seat front to back. If the car seat slides forward, DO NOT use these seat belts
Lap Belts – Manually Adjustable
The locking latch plate on some seat belts may slip and loosen after being buckled on the car seat if
positioned at a certain angle. If this happens, flip the latch plate over (fig. a) and re-buckle. Test
installation again to see if this works. If not, move the car seat to another seating position.
Lap Belts – With Retractor
Lap belts with retractors may or may not hold a car seat securely. Follow these steps to determine if you have a retractor system that will hold the car seat securely:
- Pull the belt all the way out.
- Allow the belt to retract about 6 inches (15 cm).
- Pull out on the belt again.
If the belt is locked and you cannot pull the belt out any further, you have an Automatic Locking Retractor which may be used with a car seat. Remember, when installing a car seat, pull the belt all the way out, buckle the belt, and then tighten it. If you can pull the belt out again (step c), you have an Emergency Locking Retractor which must not be used with a car seat.
Passive Restraint – Lap Belt with Motorized Shoulder Belt
DO NOT use any car seat.
Passive Restraint – Lap or Shoulder Belt Mounted on Door
DO NOT use any car seat. Belts will not stay tight while driving.
Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt with Sliding Latch Plate
Pull on the latch plate (fig. a). If the belt slides freely through the latch plate, a locking clip MUST be used (see Locking Clip section). Some combination lap/shoulder belts with sliding latch plates may be converted into an “automatic locking mode” that will allow use without a locking clip. See the vehicle owner’s manual and label on the vehicle belts for instructions.
Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt with Locking Latch Plate
The locking latch plate on some seat belts may slip and loosen after being buckled on the car seat if
positioned at a certain angle. If this happens, flip the latch plate over (fig. b) and re-buckle.
Test installation again to see if this works. If not, move the car seat to another seating position.
Locking Clip
You MUST use a locking clip provided with a car seat with a vehicle seat belt that slides freely through the latch plate or the lap belt cannot be tightly secured.
- Install the car seat and tighten the vehicle seat belt.
- Hold seat belts together at the latch plate (fig. a) then unbuckle.
- Slide locking clip on seat belts approximately 1/2 inch (1 cm) away from the latch plate.
- Re-buckle seat belt.
- Test installation to see if the car seat is secure. If not secure, additional belt-tightening may be
required:- Unbuckle the vehicle seat belt.
- Hold belts together and remove the locking clip.
- Shorten the length of the lap belt portion slightly by pulling the belt through the latch plate.
- Re-attach the locking clip.
- Buckle vehicle seat belt.
HINT: Press the car seat further down into the seat cushion to help buckle the seat belt—test installation to see if the seat is secure. If not safe, repeat the above step until secure.

Graco 41413ZOL Baby Car Seat-FAQs
How long can I use the Graco infant car seat?
Graco recommends using their infant car seats for 7-10 years, which is considered the seat’s “useful life.” The expiration date can be calculated by adding the seat’s useful life to the Date of Manufacture.
At what age do babies stop using a baby car seat?
Most babies outgrow their infant car seat by 9 to 18 months old, depending on their size. However, it’s best to follow the height and weight limits set by the manufacturer rather than age alone.
Is it safe to use the Graco car seat without the base?
Yes, you can install the Graco infant car seat without the base using only the vehicle seat belt. Both the seat belt and the Universal Anchorage System (UAS) are equally safe, but do not use both at the same time.
When should I remove the newborn insert from the car seat?
The infant insert should be removed when your child weighs 11 lbs. Also, ensure the shoulder harness straps are positioned at or below your child’s shoulders, and adjust as they grow.
At what age do you stop using the infant insert?
The infant insert is typically used for babies from birth until they are around 4 months old or when they weigh more than 12 lbs. Some inserts can also be used for babies up to 12 lbs or more, depending on the product specifications.
When should I remove the Graco car seat headrest?
You can remove the headrest when your child is able to hold their head up without support. Some parents choose to remove it around 4-5 months, but it’s not required until your child outgrows the seat.
Can I put a towel under a Graco car seat?
Yes, you can place a towel, thin blanket, or car seat mat under and behind the Graco car seat to protect the vehicle seat. Make sure the towel is not too thick.
What is the weight limit for the Graco car seat insert?
The weight limit for the Graco car seat insert varies by model but typically ranges from 12 lbs to 20 lbs. Check the product manual for the specific weight limits for your model.
How long is it safe to keep a newborn in a car seat?
Many car seat manufacturers, including Graco, recommend that babies should not stay in a car seat for longer than 2 hours within a 24-hour period to ensure their safety and comfort.
