Stanley Classic The Stay-Hot French Press-FAQs
Q1. How do you use a Stanley Classic French Press step by step?
Fill the press with coarsely ground coffee, add hot water just off the boil, stir gently, place the plunger lid on top, let it steep for about 4–5 minutes, then press slowly and enjoy.
Q2. How long should you let coffee steep in a French press?
Generally, 4–5 minutes is ideal. Adjust based on grind size and taste preference—coarser grinds may benefit from up to 6–8 minutes.
Q3. What is the best water temperature for French press coffee?
The recommended temperature is between 195–205°F (about 90–96°C). Simply boil water, then let it sit for a minute before pouring.
Q4. Can you boil water directly in a Stanley French Press?
Yes. Stanley French presses are made with stainless steel, allowing you to boil, brew, and even cook directly in the pot.
Q5. How much coffee should I use in a French press?
A standard ratio is 1:15 (1 gram of coffee per 15 grams of water). For a single 12 oz (350 ml) serving, use about 1 scoop or 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds.
Q6. What is the golden ratio for French press coffee?
The “golden ratio” is 1:15—meaning 1 part coffee to 15 parts water. This balance gives a rich, smooth flavor.
Q7. Can I leave coffee in my French press overnight?
Yes, but that’s usually for cold brew. For hot coffee, avoid leaving it in the press too long, as it becomes bitter. Transfer it to a carafe if you want to store it.
Q8. What happens if you leave coffee in a French press too long?
Over-steeping causes bitterness because the grounds keep extracting flavors even after pressing. Always pour into a mug or thermos once brewed.
Q9. What is the best type of coffee for a French press?
Medium to coarse ground 100% Arabica beans (light to medium roast) work best, highlighting rich flavors and smooth body.
Q10. Do you need a filter for a French press?
No paper filters are required. The stainless steel mesh plunger filters out most grounds while keeping natural coffee oils for fuller flavor.
