Planning Program Schedule

The thermostat display shows day, time, program period, and temperature. The thermostat can be set for four time periods per day for weekdays and the weekend. Before programming the thermostat, you can use the program schedule to plan your program.

Fill in the weekday and weekend times and temperatures you desire. If you decide not to program the thermostat, it uses the preprogrammed time and temperature settings in Table 1.

Program Schedule

Wake and return start times should include extra lead time, based on outside temperature and equipment response time, to give your equipment a head start to heat or cool the house. The temperatures cannot be set any higher than 99°F (37°C) or any lower than 40°F (4°C).

Programming Thermostat

The thermostat is flexible and can be programmed for different schedules for weekdays and the weekend to meet your lifestyle needs.

Use the personal Program Schedule for planning your time and temperature settings for various times of the day.

Four time periods are available during weekdays and the weekend—Wake, Leave, Return, and Sleep.

Wake is the time the thermostat turns on the heating/cooling equipment after an energy-saving period. When deciding what time to set for your Wake period, include extra lead time, depending on the outside temperature and your equipment response time, to give the equipment a head start to heat or cool the house before you get up.
(This will be a higher temperature during heating season, and a lower temperature during cooling season.)

Leave is the time period you can set for an energy-saving temperature while you are away at work or school. (This will be a lower temperature during heating season, and a higher temperature during cooling season.)

Return is the time the thermostat turns on the heating/cooling equipment after an energy-saving period. When deciding what time to set for your Return period, include extra lead time, depending on the outside temperature and your equipment response time, to give the equipment a head start to heat or cool the house before you arrive home.

Sleep is the time period you can set for an energy-saving temperature while you are sleeping. (For more comfortable sleeping, some people choose not to raise the cool temperature during the night.)

IMPORTANT
Always press the keys with your fingertip or a similar blunt tool. Sharp instruments like pens and pencil points can damage the keyboard.

Setting Current Time and Day

To set the current time, press Select twice. Press ▲ or ▼ to set the current time.While setting the current time, the word SET is displayed.
To set the day of the week, press Select again. Press ▲ or ▼ to set the current day.

To use the preprogrammed time and temperature (see Table 1), press Hold to exit the programming mode.

Setting Weekday Program

Slide the SYSTEM switch to the position, Heat or Cool, you want to program. A flame (heating) or a snowflake (cooling) appears on the right side of the display when setting the program temperature.

Wake
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Wake time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Wake temperature.
Leave
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Leave time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Leave temperature.
Return
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set the Return time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Return temperature.
Sleep
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Sleep time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Sleep temperature.

Setting Weekend Program

Wake
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Wake time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Wake temperature.
Leave
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Leave time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Leave temperature.
Return
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set the Return time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Return temperature.
Sleep
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Sleep time.
- Press Select. Press ▲ or ▼ to set Sleep temperature.
Press Select. End is displayed. Programming is complete. The thermostat reverts to displaying the current day time and temperature in five seconds.

Setting Temporary Temperature Hold

Press ▲ or ▼ key to set a temporary temperature setting.NOTE: The temporary temperature setting remains in effect until the next program period. To cancel, press Hold twice.

Setting Indefinite Temperature Hold

The Hold key allows you to indefinitely hold a temperature. When Hold is active, the letters Hld are displayed continuously. Hold can be canceled by pressing the Hold key again.

Press ▲ or ▼ key to set an indefinite temperature setting.

Operating Thermostat

Setting SYSTEM and FAN Switches

Use the SYSTEM and FAN switches to control thermostat operation.

SYSTEM settings

Cool: The thermostat controls the cooling.
Off: Both the heating and cooling are off.
Heat: The thermostat controls the heating.
Em. Ht. (heat pump models only The thermostat cycles emergency heat relay (E) and cycles auxiliary heat (W2), as needed, to maintain the setpoint. Terminal L is energized continuously (fault heat relay is on continuously). Compressor is deenergized.
Slide the SYSTEM switch in the lower right corner of the thermostat to select the desired system setting.

FAN settings

Auto: Fan operates with equipment.
On: Fan operates continuously.

Slide the FAN switch in the lower left corner of the thermostat to select the desired fan setting.

Heat and Cool Indicators

Indicates a call for heat.
Indicates a call for cool.

NOTE: In the programming mode, the and indicate system settings.

Back Lighting (Select Models)

Any key pressed lights the display for approximately ten seconds.

Replacing the Batteries (T8002 Models Only)

The T8002 Thermostat requires three AA alkaline batteries to operate. As the batteries run low, your thermostat shows a “bAt Lo” message in the digital display. The message flashes for one to two months before the batteries run out completely. Replace the batteries as soon as possible after the message flashes.

The batteries are located on the right side of the thermostat. Open the battery door from the bottom, lifting it out.

If you insert the batteries within approximately 30 seconds of removing the old batteries, the thermosat retains the current time and day. If the display is blank when changing batteries, reset the time and day. Your program does not require resetting; it is stored permanently!

Important: Even if you do not see the “bAt Lo” message, replace the batteries once a year to prevent leakage and/or the heating/cooling system from shutting down due to lack of battery power.

Minimum Off-Timing

The thermostat’s minimum off-timer assures that the compressor does not come on again for at least five minutes after it turns off. The minimum off-timer is triggered when the compressor turns off and when the SYSTEM switch position is changed. If the compressor turns off when the setpoint is changed, the minimum off-timer is triggered. Power interruption and power restoration also trigger the minimum off-timer.

The minimum off-timer operates in cooling on the T8000 and T8001, T8002, T8024 (multistage model), and in first-stage heating or cooling on the T8011 (heat pump model). A flashing flame or snowflake indicates the minimum off-time is in effect.

Warranty

Honeywell warrants this product, excluding battery, to be free from defects in the workmanship or materials, under normal use and service, for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase by the consumer. If, at any time during the warranty period, the product is defective or malfunctions, Honeywell shall repair or replace it (at Honeywell’s option) within a reasonable period of time.

If the product is defective,

return it, with a bill of sale or other dated proof of purchase, to the retailer from which you purchased it, or
package it carefully, along with proof of purchase (including date of purchase) and a short description of the malfunction, and mail it, postage prepaid, to the following address:

This warranty does not cover removal or reinstallation costs. This warranty shall not apply if it is shown by Honeywell that the defect or malfunction was caused by damage that occurred while the product was in the possession of a consumer.

THE DURATION OF ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, IS HEREBY LIMITED TO THE ONE-YEAR DURATION OF THIS WARRANTY. Some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied warranty lasts, so the above limitation may not apply to you.
