Cold Brew Tips & Tricks

  • We recommend a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio of coffee concentrate to water or milk. For example, if you measure out 2 oz/60 mL of concentrate, you would dilute it with 4-6 oz/120-180 mL of water or milk.
  • All coffee is different! This ratio and the bean marking on the brewing container are great starting points, but depending on the roast you use, you might want to add more or less ground coffee the next time you brew.

Cleaning & Care

The base of the brewing container twists off, and the filter can be removed for thorough cleaning. When reassembling, ensure the gasket is secure on the bottom ring of the threads, the brewing container and base are fully tightened, and markings are aligned. Glass carafe is dishwasher safe; hand wash the cork lid and all other parts.

OXO Brew Compact Cold Brew Coffee Maker-FAQs

Q1. How long should I brew coffee in the OXO Compact Cold Brew Maker?

A1. For best results, steep your coffee for 12–24 hours. Brew at room temperature for a stronger flavor or in the fridge for a smoother taste.

Q2. How much coffee should I use?

A2. Use about 8–10 tablespoons (around 50–60g) of medium-coarse ground coffee for every 16 oz (475 ml) of water. Adjust the ratio to your preferred strength.

Q3. What grind size works best for cold brew?

A3. A medium-coarse grind is recommended—slightly coarser than pour-over but not as coarse as the maximum grind setting.

Q4. How does the OXO Cold Brew Maker work?

A4. The brewer uses a Rainmaker™ lid to evenly distribute water over coffee grounds. After steeping, simply place the brewer on the glass carafe to release the cold brew concentrate.

Q5. How long does it take for the cold brew to drain?

A5. Once steeping is finished, draining usually takes 15–20 minutes, depending on your grind size.

Q6. Should I brew at room temperature or in the fridge?

A6. Both work fine. Room temperature brewing produces a bolder flavor, while refrigerator brewing gives a cleaner, milder taste. Always store cold brew in the fridge after draining.

Q7. How long can I store cold brew coffee?

A7. Cold brew concentrate lasts up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator. If it smells sour, tastes off, or looks cloudy, it’s best to discard it.

Q8. What’s the ideal ratio for serving?

A8. Dilute the concentrate with water, milk, or ice at about a 1:1 ratio (equal parts cold brew and liquid). Adjust to taste.

Q9. Why is my cold brew bitter or sour?

A9. Bitterness usually means over-extraction (too fine grind or steeped too long). Sourness means under-extraction (too short steeping). Adjust grind size and brew time for balance.
