LOC2SL OVERVIEW
WIRING INSTRUCTIONS
TIPS: For easier installation, connections can be made at the rear speakers in many vehicles without the need to remove the stereo! The LOC2SL adapter module will output a +12V remote output on the Blue/White wire when signal is detected from the car stereo’s speaker wires. Wire colors on the LOC2SL may differ from the wiring codes found on your car stereo/vehicle.
- Connect the black wire to the chassis ground (vehicle metal).
- Connect the yellow wire to a +12V constant (continuous) power source. TIP: If the amplifier is installed nearby, tap the yellow wire from the LOC2SL into the amplifier’s +12V battery terminal or wire.
- Connect the left speaker’s +/- input wires to the white and white-black input wires of the LOC2SL. This can be performed at the vehicle’s speaker location or behind the stereo itself.
- Connect the right speaker’s +/- input wires to the gray and gray/black input wires of the LOC2SL. This can be performed at the vehicle’s speaker location or behind the stereo itself.
- Connect the blue/white wire to the amplifier’s “remote turn-on” or “REM” input. Always refer to your amplifier’s owner’s manual for wiring details/ functions of your particular amplifier.
- Connect the RCA audio outputs of the LOC2SL to the amplifier’s inputs (RED = right channel, WHITE = left channel)
NOTE: Some mono (monaural) sub amplifiers may have only a single RCA input. You can choose either the left or right signal from the LOC2SL, but it is advisable to use a y-adapter to combine together for maximum signal level.
WIRING DIAGRAM
WIRING COLOR CODES
- NOTE: The wire colors on the LOC2SL may differ from the wiring colors found on the car stereo / in vehicle. Always refer to the stereo owner’s manual for wiring details/functions for your particular car stereo. The wire color codes used on the LOC2SL conform to the standards set by the E.I.A. (Electronics Industry Association).
- White = Left front positive input (LF+)
- White/black = Left front negative input (LF-)
- Gray = Right front positive input (RF+)
- Gray/black = Right front negative input (RF-)
- Yellow = +12 volt power input (constant battery power)
- Black = Chassis ground (vehicle metal)
- Blue/white = +12V remote output (amp turn-on)
REMOTE SUB/VOLUME CONTROL
- The LOC2SL includes on optional remote-mount volume control to attenuate/control the new AMP/SUB system level. Choose a location accessible to the driver, passenger or both. See Figure 1 on page 6 for suggested locations.
- TIP: Check for obstructions at the chosen location before mounting/routing the volume control.
- Recommended: Use the included adhesive strip for non-permanent mounting.
- Optional: For permanent mounting, use (2) small ¼” screws (not included).
- Choose the desired location for the remote volume control (Figure 1).
- Route the control cable from the selected location to the LOC2SL main unit.
- Plug the male 3.5mm control wire into the female 3.5mm input of the LOC2SL module.
- Peel the backing strip from one side of the adhesive and attach to the remote volume control case. When ready to mount, peel away the remaining strip and press the unit to the mounting surface.
Optional: For additional support use 2 small screws (screws not included).
ADJUSTING THE OUTPUT LEVEL
NOTES: The LOC2SL gain controls are sensitive, a slight adjustment can change the volume dramatically. The adjustment pots rotate one complete turn, do not over-turn or use too much pressure. Adjust gains with caution. JPUT Too much volume or distortion can damage your hearing and the audio equipment.
- Carefully break away the screwdriver tool from the side of the LOC2SL case (Figure 2).
- If using the remote volume control, OUmUT ensure that it is connected to the main unit with its knob turned all the UP (Figure 3).
- Use the included tool at the LOC2SL module and turn both gain controls all the way down (counterclockwise until they stop – Figure 4).
- Turn stereo on and adjust volume up to ¾ (or just above loudest listening level)
- Carefully turn up the left and right gain controls (turn clockwise) on the LOC2SL until the sound is as loud as will ever need to be or near distortion (when sound becomes garbled, unclear, or breaks up).
- Turn back each gain level very slightly from step #5 and then immediately turn down stereo volume.
- If you hear a “hum” or excessive “hiss” sound between songs then the gain levels may still be adjusted too high.
TROUBLESHOOTING
NO SOUND
- Check and verify all electrical and signal connections.
- Speaker wire connections to LOC2SL input
- Audio RCA cable connections from LOC2SL output to amplifier
- Check that amplifier is turning on when stereo is on.
- Verify remote turn-on output (blue/white wire) from LOC2SL is connected to amplifier
- Verify that LOC2SL is receiving + 12V on yellow wire and black wire is connected to chassis ground.
Note: If all of the above conditions are met, it may be necessary to connect the amplifier’s remote turn-on terminal/wire directly to the car stereo or ignition.
- Check gain adjustment levels on LOC2SL (If using remote volume control) check that the knob is not turned all the way down.
- If still no sound call tech support at 1-800-621-3695 x3.
