- If there is a decrease in the RKE operating range:
- Check the distance. The transmitter may be too far from the vehicle.
- Check the location. Other vehicles or objects may be blocking the signal.
- Check the transmitter’s battery. See “Battery Replacement” later in this section.
- If the transmitter is still not working correctly, see your dealer/retailer or a qualified technician for service.
Safety Belts
Safety Belts: They Are for Everyone
- This part of the manual tells you how to use safety belts properly. It also tells you some things you should not do with safety belts
- In most states and in all Canadian provinces, the law says to wear safety belts. Here is why: They work.
- You never know if you will be in a crash. If you do have a crash, you do not know if it will be a bad one.
- A few crashes are mild, and some crashes can be so serious that even buckled up, a person would not survive. But most crashes are in between. In many of them, people who buckle up can survive and sometimes walk away. Without belts they could have been badly hurt or killed.
- After more than 40 years of safety belts in vehicles, the facts are clear. In most crashes buckling up does matter… a lot
Why Safety Belts Work
- When you ride in or on anything, you go as fast as it goes.
- Take the simplest vehicle. Suppose it is just a seat on wheels
- Put someone on it.
Questions and Answers About Safety Belts
Q: Will I be trapped in the vehicle after an accident if I am wearing a safety belt?
A: You could be — whether you are wearing a safety belt or not. But you can unbuckle a safety belt, even if you are upside down. And your chance of being conscious during and after an accident, so you can unbuckle and get out, is much greater if you are belted.
Lap-Shoulder Belt
- All seating positions in the vehicle have a lap-shoulder belt. If you are using a rear seating position with a detachable safety belt and the safety belt is not attached, see Third Row Seats on page 3-10 for instructions on reconnecting the safety belt to the mini-buckle.
The following instructions explain how to wear a lap-shoulder belt properly.
- Adjust the seat, if the seat is adjustable, so you can sit up straight. To see how, see “Seats” in the Index.
- Pick up the latch plate and pull the belt across you. Do not let it get twisted. The lap-shoulder belt may lock if you pull the belt across you very quickly. If this happens, let the belt go back slightly to unlock it.
- Then pull the belt across you more slowly. If the shoulder portion of a passenger belt is pulled out all the way, the child restraint locking feature may be engaged.
- If this happens, let the belt go back all the way and start again
- Push the latch plate into the buckle until it clicks.
- Pull up on the latch plate to make sure it is secure. If the belt is not long enough, see Safety Belt Extender on page 3-27. Position the release button on the buckle so that the safety belt could be quickly unbuckled if necessary.
- If equipped with a shoulder belt height adjuster, move it to the height that is right for you. See “Shoulder Belt Height Adjustment” later in this section for instructions on use an important safety information
- To make the lap part tight, pull up on the shoulder belt. It may be necessary to pull the stitching on the safety belt through the latch plate to fully tighten the lap belt on smaller occupants.
Safety Belt Use During Pregnancy
- Safety belts work for everyone, including pregnant women. Like all occupants, they are more likely to be seriously injured if they do not wear safety belts.
Additional Factors Affecting System Operation
- Safety belts help keep the passenger in position on the seat during vehicle maneuvers and braking, which helps the passenger sensing system maintain the passenger airbag status. See “Safety Belts” and “Child Restraints” in the Index for additional information about the importance of proper restraint use.
- A thick layer of additional material, such as a blanket or cushion, or aftermarket equipment such as seat covers, seat heaters, and seat
massagers can affect how well the passenger sensing system operates. We recommend that you not use seat covers or other aftermarket equipment except when approved by GM for your specific vehicle. - See Adding Equipment to the Airbag-Equipped Vehicle on page 3-42 for more information about modifications that can affect how the system operates.
- A wet seat can affect the performance of the passenger sensing system. Here is how:
- The passenger sensing system may turn off the passenger airbag when liquid is soaked into the seat. If this happens, the off indicator will be lit, and the airbag readiness light on the instrument panel will also be lit.
- Liquid pooled on the seat that has not soaked in may make it more likely that the passenger sensing system will enable (turn on) the passenger airbag while a child restraint or child occupant is on the seat. If the passenger airbag is turned on, the on indicator will be lit.
- If the passenger seat gets wet, dry the seat immediately. If the airbag readiness light is lit, do not install a child restraint or allow anyone to occupy the seat. See Airbag Readiness Light on page 5-16 for important safety information
Servicing the Airbag-Equipped Vehicle
- Airbags affect how the vehicle should be serviced. There are parts of the airbag system in several places around the vehicle. Your dealer/retailer and the service manual have information about servicing the vehicle and the airbag system. To purchase a service manual, see Service Publications Ordering Information on page 13-12.
Vehicle Care
Backglass Wiper Blade
To replace the backglass wiper blade:
- Pull the wiper blade assembly away from the backglass. The backglass wiper blade will not lock in a vertical position socare should be used whenpulling it away from the vehicle.
- Rotate the wiper blade assembly, hold the wiper arm in position, and push the blade away from the wiper arm.
- Replace the wiper blade.
- Return the wiper arm and blade assembly to the rest position on the glass.
Headlamp Aiming
- Headlamp aim has been preset at the factory and should need no further adjustment. However, if your vehicle is damaged in a crash, the headlamp aim may be affected. Aim adjustment to the low-beam headlamps may be necessary if oncoming drivers flash their high-beam headlamps at you (for vertical aim).
- If the headlamps need to be re-aimed, it is recommended that you take the vehicle to your dealer/retailer for service
Bulb Replacement
- For the proper type of replacement bulbs, see Replacement Bulbs on page 10-30. For any bulb changing procedure not listed in this section, contact your dealer/retailer.
License Plate Lamp
To replace one of these bulbs:
- Remove the two screws holding each of the license plate lamp to the liftgate trim
- Turn and pull the license plate lamp forward through the lift gate trim opening.
- Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull the bulb straight out of the socket Install the new bulb.
- Reverse steps 1 through 3 to reinstall the license plate lamp

Electrical System
Electrical System Overload
- The vehicle has fuses and circuit breakers to protect against an electrical system overload. When the current electrical load is too heavy, the circuit breaker opens and closes, protecting the circuit until the current load returns to normal or the problem is fixed. This
greatly reduces the chance of circuit overload and fire caused by electrical problems. - Fuses and circuit breakers protect the following in the vehicle:
- Headlamp Wiring
- Windshield Wiper Motor
- Power Windows and other Power Accessories
Engine Compartment Fuse Block
- The underhood fuse block is located in the engine compartment, on the passenger side of the vehicle.

Tire Pressure Monitor System
- The Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) uses radio and sensor technology to check tire pressure levels. The TPMS sensors monitor
the air pressure in your vehicle’s tires and transmit tire pressure readings to a receiver located in the vehicle. - Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly when cold and inflated to the inflation pressure recommended
by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you should determine the proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.) - As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire
pressure telltale when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated
