Dos and don’ts

  • DO: Only use this appliance on a stable surface. Always hold the appliance by its handle.
  • DON’T: Overfill the water tank past the max. fill mark. Iron clothing while it’s being worn. Press the steam trigger when the control dial is set to the ‘●’ or ‘●●’ heat setting, as this could cause water leakage from the soleplate.

Care and maintenance

Before attempting any cleaning or maintenance, always unplug the iron from the mains power supply, drain the water tank, and allow it to cool sufficiently. To remove any build-up around the steam holes, use a cotton wool tip dampened with methylated spirits. Wipe off the methylated spirits with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

  1. Drain the remaining water from the water tank to prevent it from leaking during cleaning.
  2. Wipe the ceramic soleplate with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  3. If polyester has burnt onto the ceramic soleplate, wipe it with a soft cloth dipped in methylated spirits. Clean off the methylated spirits with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.
  4. To remove any build-up around the steam holes, use a cotton wool tip dampened with methylated spirits. Wipe off the methylated spirits with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly.

Anti-calc filter

The water tank has a built-in anti-calc filter to prevent calcium and limescale build-up. Calcium build-up, which is prominent in areas with hard water, can hinder performance and lower the lifespan of the iron. This is an automatic feature that is permanently activated.

Instructions for use

Before first use

Before connecting to the mains power supply, wipe the exterior surface of the iron with a soft, damp cloth and dry thoroughly. To remove any impurities that may have occurred during the manufacturing process, it is best to use the iron on an old piece of cloth, making sure that it is on the highest temperature setting suitable for the material.

  1. Plug in and switch on the iron at the mains power supply, place the iron onto the cloth, and then hold down the steam control trigger for approx 15–20 seconds.
  2. Repeat this 2–3 times, waiting approx. 5 seconds in-between; this will remove any impurities from the ceramic soleplate.

Filling the water tank

  1. Check that the iron is switched off and unplugged from the mains power supply, with the control dial set to the ‘MIN’ position.
  2. Open the water tank cap.
  3. Fill a suitable measuring vessel with water and then carefully pour the contents into the water tank.

Using the steam iron

Ironing with steam

The steam settings are ideal for removing creases from fabrics such as cotton and linen with ease.

  1. Fill the water tank following the instructions in the section entitled ‘Filling the water tank’.
  2. Plug in and switch on the iron at the mains power supply.
  3. To increase the temperature of the iron, rotate the control dial in a clockwise direction until the desired heat setting is reached. Reduce the temperature by rotating the control dial in an anticlockwise direction. The temperature indicator light will illuminate to signal that the iron is heating up; this will switch off once the iron is ready to use. The iron will only produce steam when the control dial is set to the ‘●●●’ heat setting.
  4. To iron with steam, press and hold the steam control trigger. It may take up to 1 minute for water to be drawn from the water tank and for the iron to produce steam.
  5. After use, rotate the control dial to the ‘MIN’ position. Switch off and unplug the iron from the mains power supply and allow it to cool thoroughly.

NOTE: Allow the iron to fully heat up before pressing the steam control trigger; not doing so may cause water to leak from the ceramic soleplate. Rest the iron on the base unit when not in use. The temperature indicator light will illuminate whilst the iron is heating up, but not when it is cooling down; it should not be misinterpreted as a ready-to-use indicator light. The temperature indicator light will cycle on and off during use to regulate the temperature.

CAUTION: The cord will become very hot during use; do not touch it.

WARNING: Do not use the iron on any area of fabric for long periods of time, as this will damage the fabric.

Ironing without steam

For removing creases from more sensitive fabrics, try ironing without steam.

  1. Plug in and switch on the iron at the mains power supply.
  3. Test the iron on a small area of the fabric to check that the selected temperature is suitable; adjust if necessary.
  4. After use, rotate the control dial to the ‘MIN’ position. Switch off and unplug the iron from the mains power supply and allow it to cool thoroughly.

NOTE: Always make sure that the water tank is filled to the min. fill mark even when ironing without steam to prolong the iron’s life.

Vertical steam ironing

  1. Hang up the item to be vertically steamed.
  2. Fill the water tank following the instructions in the section entitled ‘Filling the water tank’.
  3. Plug in and switch on the iron at the mains power supply.
  4. Rotate the control dial to the ‘●●●’ heat setting.
  5. Hold the iron approx. 20 cm away from the item and press the steam control trigger for a short burst of steam, or hold the steam control trigger for prolonged, continuous steaming.

Hints and tips

  1. Always start ironing on a low heat setting and work up to a higher one, if necessary; it takes less time for the iron to heat up than it does to cool down.
  2. The temperature of the iron is hottest when it has initially heated up and will therefore need time to stabilise. Once the iron has heated up, allow the temperature indicator light to cycle off and on again before using the iron.
  3. Before each use, check the care labels on the fabrics to be ironed so that the correct temperature is selected.

Storage

  • Check that the iron is cool and dry and that the water tank is empty before storing in a cool, dry place.
  • Wrap the cord loosely around the iron; never wrap it tightly, as this could cause damage.
  • Position the iron on the rubber support on the base unit; this will help to prevent the ceramic soleplate from getting scratched.
  • Lock the iron into place using the safety lock when storing; when the iron is cool, pull this down to secure the iron onto the base unit.
