Grand Way Knives GW 6681 Spring Assisted Knife-FAQs
How does a spring-assisted knife open?
A spring-assisted knife opens when you push the thumb stud or flipper. Once slight pressure is applied, an internal torsion spring helps snap the blade fully open and lock it in place.
Why is my spring-assisted knife not opening properly?
Dust, pocket lint, or debris may be blocking the pivot area or liners. Clean the knife thoroughly—especially around the pivot and lock bar—to restore smooth opening.
Is a spring-assisted knife good for self-defense?
Yes, it can be used for self-defense due to its fast opening, comfortable grip, and compact size. However, its primary use remains everyday carry (EDC), camping, and general utility tasks.
Is a spring-assisted knife the same as an automatic knife?
No. A spring-assisted knife needs manual pressure to start opening, and then a spring completes the action. An automatic (switchblade) opens fully at the push of a button without manual blade movement.
What should I avoid doing with a pocket knife like the GW 6681?
Do not use it as a screwdriver, pry bar, or throw it. Also avoid exposing it to extreme heat or flames, as this can damage the blade and internal mechanism.
Can I use WD-40 for sharpening or maintaining my knife?
WD-40 is not recommended for sharpening stones. You may use it lightly for cleaning or rust prevention, but water or dedicated honing oil works better for sharpening.
What is the “golden rule” when using knives?
Use the right knife for the right task. Avoid misusing the blade for purposes it’s not designed for, as this shortens the knife’s life and can cause accidents.
Is it legal to carry a spring-assisted knife?
In many places, yes—spring-assisted knives are legal. However, you cannot carry them into restricted areas like courts, airports, schools, or federal buildings. Laws also vary by state.
