PRODUCT OVERVIEW

BEFORE FIRST USE
- Remove all packaging materials and read all instructions.
- Check that all accessories are complete and the appliance is not damaged.
- Clean all parts to remove any dust or manufacturing residue.
- Clean the water storage tank and ice collecting tray with clean water.
- The incline angle of the ice maker should not exceed 45° during transportation or use. Do not turn the ice maker upside down. Doing so could cause the compressor or refrigerating system to operate incorrectly. Please allow time for the liquid in the compressor to settle after the ice maker is moved or transported. Before using the ice maker for the first time, please wait for 2 hours after the unit has been positioned on a level surface.
- The appliance must be placed on a dry and level surface with sufficient ventilation, far from heat sources such as ovens, heaters, and corrosive gases. Leave around 15cm clearance on all sides of the ice maker for proper ventilation.
- Do not fill the water reservoir with hot water. This may damage the ice maker. It is best to fill the water tank with water that is room temperature or lower. The water quality added to the tank should be drinkable.
- Do not use the appliance in a very cold environment (lower than 5°C).
- Run the Clean Function.
USING YOUR ICE MAKER
- Ensure the drainage plug underneath the appliance is closed securely. Refer to page 11.
- Plug the ice maker into a wall outlet. The
indicator will blink. NOTE: The appliance should be rested for 30 minutes before plugging into a wall outlet, if it has been moved. - Open the front lid with the viewing window. Remove the ice basket and fill the water tank with drinkable water. NOTE: Do not fill above the MAX water level mark.
- Replace the ice basket and close the front lid.
- Press the ON/OFF button and the
indicator lights solidly. - The ice-making cycle will take approximately 20–30 minutes, depending on the ambient temperature and water temperature.
- The ice-making assembly is equipped inside the appliance, and the appliance will keep producing ice when water is pumped into it. When ice forms in the assembly, ice nuggets will transfer into the ice tray, and the ice nuggets will drop into the ice basket. The above action will be repeated until the ice basket is full.
- The indicator
will illuminate when the ice basket is full, and the ice maker will stop the ice-making cycle automatically. Open the front lid and gently remove the ice from the ice basket with the ice scoop. - Replace the ice basket and close the front lid. Press the ON/OFF button to restart the appliance. NOTE: If the ice is not removed from the ice basket, the machine will restart the ice-making process automatically after 4 hours.
- The
indicator will flash when the water tank is out of water. Remove the ice basket and refill the water tank with drinkable water to the “MAX” mark. - Close the front lid, and the appliance will restart the ice-making cycle automatically.
- When you have the desired amount of ice, stop the ice-making cycle by pressing the ON/OFF button and unplugging the unit from the wall outlet.
- Open the front lid and transfer the ice to a freezer, if required.
- Allow the ice maker to reach room temperature. NOTE: It is recommended to replace the water every week. Empty the water tank if the ice maker will not be used for a long time.
CARE & CLEANING
NOTE: Clean the water tank if the appliance has water in the tank and has not been used for 48 hours.
NOTE: If the appliance is left empty for long periods, switch off, defrost, clean, dry, and leave the lid open to prevent mold from developing within the appliance.
- Remove the ice basket, add water and mild detergent into the water tank.
- Hold and press the CLEAN button for about 3 seconds. The indicator
illuminates, and the appliance enters the cleaning mode. - After cleaning for 5 minutes, the appliance stops working and the indicator

- Close the drainage plug and fill the water tank with water. Press the CLEAN button again, the
indicator lights up, and the appliance enters cleaning mode. - Remove the ice basket and clean the ice maker interior with a soft cloth soaked with warm water and vinegar, then rinse with clean water and drain all the water, following step 4.

NOTE: Empty the water reservoir and dry it for storage if the ice maker will not be used for a long time.
TROUBLESHOOTING

TIPS FOR YOUR ICE MAKER
- Opening the lid for long periods can cause a significant increase in the temperature in the compartments of the appliance.
- It is normal for the compressor and condenser surface to reach temperatures between 70°C and 90°C during operation, and the surrounding areas may be very hot.
- Due to fast freezing, ice cubes may become opaque. This is due to air becoming trapped in the water and will not affect the quality or taste of the ice.
- Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality. Always use fresh water before starting ice production, either at initial installation or after a long shut-off.

Morphy Richards MRICE17SS Nugget Ice Maker-FAQs
What problems are commonly seen in nugget (pebble) ice makers?
Common issues include unusual grinding or pumping noises, slow ice production, or ice getting stuck in the chute. These problems are usually caused by mineral buildup, ice jams, or wear in internal moving parts like the auger or fan. Regular cleaning and using filtered water can help reduce these issues and keep the MRICE17SS running smoothly.
How is a nugget ice maker different from a regular ice maker?
A nugget ice maker produces soft, chewable ice by freezing water into thin flakes and compressing them into small pellets. Regular ice makers freeze water into solid cubes using molds. Nugget ice melts faster, absorbs flavors better, and is gentler on teeth, making it ideal for cold drinks and everyday use.
Is nugget ice worth buying for home use?
Yes, nugget ice makers are worth it if you enjoy soft, chewable ice for drinks, smoothies, or iced coffee. The Morphy Richards MRICE17SS makes ice faster than freezer trays and offers convenience without plumbing. Many users find it hard to go back to regular ice once they start using nugget ice daily.
Can I use tap water in the Morphy Richards MRICE17SS ice maker?
You can use tap water, but filtered or distilled water is recommended for better taste and longer machine life. Hard water contains minerals that may cause scale buildup over time. Using clean, low-mineral water helps maintain ice quality and reduces the need for frequent deep cleaning.
Why is nugget ice more expensive than regular ice?
Nugget ice costs more because of the advanced technology involved. Unlike standard ice makers, nugget machines use an auger system to freeze water in layers and compress it into pellets. This process requires more components and precision, which increases manufacturing and maintenance costs.
What makes nugget ice ideal for hospitals and home use?
Nugget ice is soft, chewable, and melts gently, which makes it easy on teeth and safe for patients. That’s why hospitals often use it. At home, the same qualities make it perfect for kids, elderly users, and anyone who prefers softer ice for hydration and comfort.
Why does nugget ice melt faster than regular ice cubes?
Nugget ice melts faster because it has a porous structure made from compressed ice flakes. This allows it to absorb drinks quickly and cool them faster. While it melts sooner than solid cubes, it provides a smoother drinking experience without diluting drinks too harshly.
How often should I clean my nugget ice maker?
It’s best to clean your ice maker every 2–4 weeks, depending on usage and water quality. Signs like cloudy ice, slow production, or strange odors mean cleaning is overdue. You can use a dedicated ice machine cleaner; vinegar may work, but manufacturer-approved solutions are safer.
Does a countertop nugget ice maker use a lot of electricity?
Countertop ice makers are generally energy-efficient. On average, a nugget ice maker consumes moderate electricity compared to large kitchen appliances. The MRICE17SS is designed for home use and does not significantly increase monthly energy bills, especially when used normally rather than continuously.
