Primula Classic Stovetop Espresso and Coffee Maker- FAQs

How long does it take to brew coffee with a Primula stovetop espresso maker?

It takes just a few minutes on medium heat. You’ll know it’s done when the top chamber fills with coffee and you hear a gurgling sound.

How much coffee should I use in the Primula Cold Brew Maker?

Use 16 tablespoons of ground coffee with the 40 oz water capacity. Add 2 cups of water first to dampen the grounds before filling the rest.

How do I know when the espresso is finished brewing?

When the coffee stops bubbling and only steam comes from the spout, the top chamber is full—your espresso is ready.

How long does a shot of espresso take to brew?

A single shot should take about 25–30 seconds. A double shot (60ml) should also be extracted in about 25 seconds.

How does a stovetop espresso maker work?

As the water heats, steam pressure builds and forces water through the coffee grounds and into the top chamber. Once it stops bubbling, the brew is complete.

Can I use regular ground coffee in the Primula espresso maker?

Yes, but use a medium-fine grind. Too fine and it may pass through the filter; too coarse and it won’t extract enough flavor.

How much water do I add to the stovetop espresso maker?

Fill the bottom chamber with water up to the fill line, or about 1/2 inch from the top. Don’t overfill.

How does the Primula coffee maker actually brew coffee?

It uses steam pressure to push hot water through the coffee grounds, which then collects as brewed coffee in the upper chamber.
