- Do not use a very thin or broken slice of bread.
- Do not insert other foods that may drip during the cooking process. In addition to making the cleaning procedure more difficult, these may cause fires.
- Clean the crumb tray regularly: crumbs can smoke or burn.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
Check that the voltage on the rating plate of your appliance corresponds with your house electricity supply, which must be A.C. (Alternating Current). BEFORE FIRST USE
- Before using your toaster for the first time, operate the toaster without bread.
- As with all new electric heating elements, your toaster will emit a ‘new’ smell when it is first switched on. This is quite normal and not a cause for concern.
USING YOUR TOASTER
- Place the sliced bread into the bread slots (1). If you toast two slices, put them in the same bread slot, not one in each of the slots. If you put just one slice in either of the two bread slots, it may become over-browned due to the additional heat coming from the long elements. Adjust the browning control (3) to a lower setting.

- Adjust the browning control (3) to the desired setting.

- Depress the bread carriage lever (2). The toaster will begin toasting the bread. Adjust the browning control (3) to the desired setting.

- When completed, the bread carriage lever will automatically rise and lift the toast from the toaster.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES
CANCEL BUTTON
If you wish to interrupt the toasting process, press the cancel button.
RE-HEAT BUTTON
If your toast has popped up and gone cold, the toaster offers a re-heat facility. To use, depress the bread carriage lever (2), and press the reheat button (5) immediately. The button will illuminate, and the toaster will operate for a short period, re-heating the bread.
FROZEN BUTTON
To toast frozen bread, do not adjust the browning control (3) from your normal setting. Place the frozen bread in the bread slots (1), depress the bread carriage lever (2), and press the defrost button (4). The button will illuminate, and the toaster will operate for a longer period, defrosting and toasting the bread.
REMOVING THE CRUMB TRAY
WARNING! Crumbs will accumulate in the crumb tray (7) and could catch fire if not emptied regularly.
- When the appliance has cooled down completely, tap the sides of the case lightly to dislodge any crumbs lodged in the bread slots (1).

- Empty the crumb tray and replace it. Never operate the appliance without the crumb tray fitted.
HINTS AND TIPS
- To achieve uniform browning, we recommend you wait a minimum of 30 seconds between each toasting, so that the control can be automatically reset.
- If toasting one slice, or one slice in each slot, you may need to adjust the browning control (3) to a slightly lower setting. You will notice a variation in toast colour on one side of a single slice. The side facing the inner wall of the bread slot (1) will be darker in colour than the side facing the outer wall of the bread slot.
- When toasting two slices, it is recommended that they are of equal size and freshness. Also, put both slices in the same bread slot, not one in each of the slots. If you put just one slice in a bread slot, it may become over-browned due to the additional heat coming from the long elements.
- Stale bread toasts more rapidly than fresh bread. Therefore, the browning control should be set at a lower setting than usual.
- All sorts of bread can be used, as well as teacakes, small rolls, etc. The length of bread slots (1) allows for longer types of bread, such as artisan, pittas, small baguettes, etc. Slices should not, however, be so thick as to cause burning or jamming within the bread slots.
- If the bread in your toaster becomes jammed, disconnect your toaster at the socket, allow it to cool, then remove the bread.
- Allow the toaster to cool fully before putting it away.
- Should some toast remain blocked in the toaster, remove the plug from the mains, wait for the toaster to cool down until it is safe to touch, then turn the toaster over and shake it gently.
CARE AND CLEANING
- Before cleaning, unplug your toaster and let it cool down.
- The external part of the appliance must be cleaned with a soft cloth. Do not use abrasive detergents that can ruin the surface.
- DO NOT IMMERSE IN WATER.
- After each use, remove the plug from the electrical outlet, and empty the crumb collection tray that is under the appliance.
- DO NOT TOUCH ANY PART OF THE TOASTER WITH SHARP OR METAL UTENSILS, ESPECIALLY INSIDE THE BREAD TOASTING SLOTS. RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK AND DAMAGE TO THE TOASTER.

Morphy Richards 245742 Signature 4-Slice Toaster-FAQS
How does the Morphy Richards 245742 4-Slice Toaster work?
Insert bread into the slots, choose your preferred browning level using the control dial, and press the lever down. The toaster starts heating immediately, and you can stop it anytime using the cancel button.
Can I use this toaster for the first time straight out of the box?
Yes. It’s recommended to run the toaster once without bread. A mild new-appliance smell is normal during first use and disappears quickly.
Why won’t the toaster lever stay down?
This usually happens because of crumbs or debris. Unplug the toaster, remove and clean the crumb tray, check for blockages, then plug it back in and try again.
What are the benefits of a 4-slice toaster?
A 4-slice toaster saves time by toasting more bread at once, making it ideal for families. It also handles thicker bread, bagels, and breakfast items more efficiently than 2-slice models.
How do I clean the Morphy Richards 4-slice toaster?
Unplug the toaster and let it cool. Remove the crumb trays, empty them, and wipe clean. Use a soft brush to gently remove crumbs inside the slots.
How often should I empty the crumb trays?
It’s best to empty the crumb trays once or twice a week, depending on use. Regular cleaning helps prevent burning smells and improves safety.
How long does a Morphy Richards toaster usually last?
With proper care and regular cleaning, a toaster typically lasts between 6 and 8 years.
Should I keep my toaster plugged in when not in use?
No. Unplugging the toaster after use is recommended to reduce fire risk and save standby electricity.
Does the toaster turn off automatically?
Yes. Once the set browning time is complete, the toaster switches off automatically and pops the bread up safely.
How do I maintain my toaster for long-term use?
Clean the crumb tray regularly, wipe the exterior with a dry cloth, avoid metal utensils inside the slots, and always place the toaster on a flat surface.
