IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. This appliance is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or a lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are closely supervised and instructed by a person responsible for their safety concerning the use of the appliance.
  3. This appliance shall not be used by children. Keep the appliance and its cord out of reach of children.
  4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
  5. To protect against the risk of electrical shock, do not put the cord, plug, base, or motor in water or other liquids.
  6. Turn the appliance), then unplug from the outlet when not in use, before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull from the outlet. Never pull from the power cord.
  7. Avoid contact with moving parts.
  8. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged supply cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions, or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. Supply cord replacement and repairs must be conducted by the manufacturer, its service
    agent, or a similarly qualified person to avoid a hazard. Call the provided customer service number for information on examination, repair, or adjustment.
  9. The use of attachments, including canning jars, not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer, may pose e risk of injury to persons.
  10. Do not use outdoors.
  11. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of the table or counter or touch hot surfaces, including the stove.
  12. Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
  13. Keep hands and utensils out of the jar and away from the cutting blade while blending or chopping food, to reduce the risk of severe personal injury and/or damage to the blender or available attachments (attachments may not be provided with the blender). A rubber spatula may be used, but it must be used only when the lender is not running.
  14. Blades are sharp; handle carefully—especially when assembling, disassembling, emptying, or cleaning the blender jar.
  15. Do not use a broken, chipped, or cracked blender jar.
  16. Do not use a broken, cracked, or loose cutting blade assembly.
  17. Do not blend hot liquids in the personal jar.
  18. Always operate the blender with the lid in place.
  19. Do not use the appliance for anything other than its intended purpose.
  20. Do not leave the blender unattended while it is operating.
  21. Check that the appliance is OFF before plugging the cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn the control to OFF; then remove the plug from the wall outlet. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull from the outlet. Never pull from the power cord.
  22. CAUTION! To avoid a hazard due to inadvertent resetting of the thermal cut-out, this appliance must not be supplied through an external switching device, such as a timer, or connected to a circuit that is regularly switched on and off by the
    utility.
  23. If the jar should twist or rotate when the motor is switched ON, switch OFF immediately and tighten the jar in the collar or on the blender base.
  24. Ensure the cutter assembly is tight and secure to the jar. Injury can result if the moving blades accidentally become exposed.
  25. When blending hot liquids, remove the filler cap of the two-piece lid or open the vent opening of the lid with a mess-free spout, and close any lid openings along the edge intended for pouring. Hot liquids may push the lid off the jar during blending. To prevent possible burns: Do not fill the blender jar beyond the 3-cup (710-ml) level. With the protection
    of an oven mitt or thick towel, place one hand on top of the lid. Keep exposed skin away from the lid. Start blending at the lowest speed.
  26. Be careful if hot liquid is poured into the blender container or food chopper, as it can be ejected out of the appliance due to sudden steam.
  27. To reduce the risk of injury, never place the cutting blade assembly on the base without the jar properly attached.
  28. Do not attempt to defeat the cover interlock mechanism of the optional food chopper.
  29. If the blender contains a food chopper attachment, be certain the cover is securely locked in place before operating the appliance.
  30. Keep hands and utensils away from the moving blade while processing food to reduce the risk of severe personal injury and/ or damage to the food chopper. A rubber scraper may be used, but ONLY when the food chopper is not running.
  31. The s-blade is sharp. Handle carefully. Store out of reach of children.
  32. To reduce the risk of injury, never place the s-blade on the chopper motor shaft without the bowl properly attached.
  33. Be certain the lid is securely locked in place before operating the food chopper.
  34. Make sure the s-blade has come to a full stop before removing the chopper lid.
  35. Never use the appliance for a longer period or with a larger amount of ingredients than recommended by the appliance manufacturer. See section titled “Food Chopper Chart.”

Parts and Features

Lid: The Lid is easy to put on, take off, and clean. Always use a Lid when the machine is in operation and to pouring.
Blender Jar: Ounces, cups, and milliliters are marked.
Personal Blender Jar: The Personal Blender Jar makes it easier to make beverages to take on the go.
Food Chopper Attachment: The Food Chopper Attachment makes it easy to process small amounts of food.
Base: Contains motor. DO NOT IMMERSE BASE IN WATER.
Program Buttons: Select the desired program by pressing the button for that program. The programs are:

  • SMOOTHIE – Blends frozen or fresh smoothies.
  • ICE CRUSH – Breaks ice into pieces small enough for slushies or fine cocktails, using 1 to 1 1/2 cups (237 to 355 ml) ice cubes.

Speed Buttons: Press to select LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH speed.
PULSE Button: Press and hold down the PULSE Button to blend at high
speed setting. Power Button: Press to turn the Blender on or off.

Using Your Blender

  1. Make sure Blender is unplugged. Place Base on a clean, dry surface. Place the Cutting Blade Assembly, blade side up, through the opening in the Blender Jar and twist the collar onto the bottom of the Jar.  Hamilton Beach 58163 Blender-Food Processor Combo-2

  3. Plug into the outlet. Press the Power Button; the button turns white. Press the desired program button or speed; Blender will start. Using Personal Jar

  1. Add ingredients. Carefully place the Cutting Blade Assembly and Collar onto the Personal Jar. Turn the Personal Jar upside down and shake. Place onto the Base.      Hamilton Beach 58163 Blender-Food Processor Combo-7
  2. Plug the Blender into the outlet. Press the Power  Button to turn Blender on, then press the desired Speed Button. The Blender will only run the Pulse function when the PULSE Button is held down. Place your hand on top of the Jar to hold while blending.   3. Unplug. Remove the personal jar from the base. Turn the bottom up; remove the collar and cutting blade assembly from the Jar. Hand-tighten the drinking lid onto the personal jar.

Using Food Chopper Attachment

  1. Place the Chopper Bowl on the Food Chopper Jar Collar with Adapter, turning clockwise to lock the Bowl. Install the assembled Chopper Bowl into the Base.    Hamilton Beach 58163 Blender-Food Processor Combo-8
  2. Slide the S-Blade onto the Adapter and add food. Place the Lid on the Bowl with the pin of the Lid in the Adapter. Turn the Lid clockwise until locked. Plug the Blender into the outlet.            Hamilton Beach 58163 Blender-Food Processor Combo-9
  3. Press the Power ( ) Button to turn on, and then press and hold the PULSE Button or select the desired Speed Button to process. Unplug. Turn the Lid counterclockwise and lift to remove. Pull up the S-Blade to remove before removing food.

Blender Tips

Blender Jar Tips

  • Always place the liquid in the Blender Jar first, then add the remaining ingredients.
  • For best performance, the minimum amount of liquid needed per recipe is 1 cup (8 ounces [237 ml]). Add more liquid if the food is not blending properly. The amount of liquid needed will vary based on other ingredients required for blending.
  • If blending action stops during blending or ingredients stick to the sides of the Jar, stop blending and try pulsing or add more liquid to the Blender Jar.
  • Do not store food or liquids in the Blender Jar.
  • Avoid bumping or dropping Blender when in operation or at any time.
  • Cutting large whole fruits and vegetables may allow them to blend more quickly.
  • Do not fill the Blender Jar past the highest graduation marking.
  • If ice or frozen fruit pieces are not blending, stop the Blender and pulse a few times.
  • Do not allow ice to stand or freeze in the jar. Immediately crush ice after placing it in the Jar.
  • Keep the Lid on for easy pouring.

Personal Jar Tips

  • If the blending action does not start, stops during blending, or ingredients stick
    to the sides of the Jar, press the Power ( ) Button. Remove the Jar, shake the contents, and return to blending.
  • For best performance in the 2-oz (591-ml) Personal Jar, the minimum amount of liquid needed per recipe is 3/4 cup (6 ounces [177 ml]).
  • When filling the Jar, place frozen ingredients or ice into the Jar first. When turned upside down to blend, frozen items will be on top.
  • Do not chop or process hard foods such as cheese, crackers, or meat.
  • Avoid bumping or dropping Blender.
  • Do not blend hot liquids in the Personal Jar.
  • Do not fill the Personal Jar above the MAX fill line.

Care and Cleaning

  1. Unplug.
  2. Remove Blender Jar and Lid. Rotate the Jar Collar counterclockwise until the Collar and Cutting Blade Assembly come apart from the Blender Jar. OR
  3. Remove the Personal Jar from the base. Rotate the Collar counterclockwise until the Collar and Cutting Blade Assembly come apart from the Personal Jar.
  4. Wipe the Blender Base, control panel, Food Chopper Attachment, and cord with a damp cloth or sponge. To remove stubborn spots, use a mild, nonabrasive cleanser.
  5. Blender Jar, Personal Blender Jar, Lid, Jar Collar, and Cutting Blade Assembly are dishwasher-safe.
  6. DO NOT use the “SANI” setting when washing in the dishwasher. “SANI” cycle temperatures could damage your product. Parts may also be washed with hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry thoroughly. Do not soak.

Cleaning Blender Jar:

  1. Add 5 cups (1.2 L) of warm water and two drops of dish soap. Press the PULSE button. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  2. To clean after blending oily foods, sprinkle baking soda in the blender. Add 1 cup (237 ml) white vinegar. The mixture will bubble. When bubbling subsides, add 1 1/2 cups (355 ml) water. Wash any remaining residue with dish soap and water. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

Cleaning Personal Blender Jar:

  1. Add 1 cup (237 ml) warm water and 1 drop of dish soap.
  2. Blend for 30 seconds.
  3. Press the Power ( ) Button to stop blending.
  4. Remove the Jar from the Base and remove the Collar. Rinse and dry.

Troubleshooting

Ingredients will not mix properly.

  • Check to see if enough liquid has been added to the ingredients. The mixture should be fluid and free-running at all times.
  • Solid pieces are too large.
  • The container is too full. Do not fill past the highest (6.5 cups/1.5 L) graduation marking.
  • Cutting Blade Assembly blades are not sharp or are damaged. Inspect the container
    and the Cutting Blade Assembly daily.
  • Select a speed to create a fluid blend.

Blender smells like it is burning.

  • Turn off Blender and allow the unit to cool.
  • Although motors are tested during the manufacturing process, heavy use may cause the curing of motor windings. The smell may quickly dissipate after a few heavy uses.
  • If the smell continues after additional heavy uses, call our customer care center.

There is grease around the bottom of the Blender Jar or on the countertop.

  • Monitor the problem and source. This may indicate an issue with the journal bearings.
  • Call our customer care center if the condition persists.

Food Chopper S-Blade not turning.

  • Make sure the Lid and Chopper Bowl are properly installed, or the Food Chopper will
    not operate.
