Battery Warnings
DANGER: Risk of explosion! Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced with an incorrect type.
- When used correctly, primary batteries provide a safe and dependable source of portable power. However, misuse or abuse may result in leakage, fire, or explosion.
- Always take care to install your batteries correctly, observing the”+” and”-” marks on the battery and the product. Batteries that are incorrectly placed into some equipment may be short-circuited or charged. This can result in a rapid temperature rise, causing venting, leakage, explosion, and personal injury.
- Always replace the whole set of batteries at one time, taking care not to mix old and new ones or batteries of different types. When batteries of different brand or types are used together, or new and old batteries are used together, some batteries may be overdischarged due to a difference in voltage or capacity. This can result in venting, leakage, and explosion, and may cause personal injury.
- Keep batteries out of the reach of children, especially small batteries that could be easily ingested.
- Immediately seek medical attention if a cell or battery has been swallowed. Also, contact your local poison control center.
- Store unused batteries in their original packaging and away from metal objects. Unpacked batteries could get jumbled or mixed with metal objects. This can cause battery short-circuiting, which may result in venting, leakage, and explosion, and personal injury; one of the best ways to avoid this from happening is to store unused batteries in their original packaging.
- Never dispose of batteries in a fire. When batteries are disposed of in a fire, the heat build-up may cause an explosion and personal injury. Do not incinerate batteries except for approved disposal in a controlled incinerator.
- Never attempt to recharge primary batteries. Attempting to charge a non-rechargeable (primary) battery may cause internal gas or heat generation, resulting in venting, leakage, explosion, and personal injury.
- Never short-circuit batteries, as this may lead to high temperatures, leakage, or explosion. When the positive(+) and negative(-) terminals of a battery are in electrical contact with each other, the battery becomes short-circuited. This may result in venting, leakage, explosion, and personal injury.
- In the event that the electrolyte comes into contact with the skin or eyes, immediately flush with fresh water for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
- Never heat batteries in order to revive them. When a battery is exposed to heat, venting, leakage, and explosion may occur and cause personal injury.
- Never attempt to disassemble, crush, puncture, or open batteries. Such abuse may result in venting, leakage, rupture and cause personal injury.
Instructions for Use
- Always purchase the correct size and grade of battery most suitable for the intended use.

“Tare” function
The Tare function allows you to measure items as they are added to the scale to get the separate and total weight of items.
- Place the first item(s) (> 4% of the scale’s maximum weight capacity) to weigh on the scale and get the weight.
- Without removing item(s), press
to reset the LCD reading to “0”.
- Add the next item (s). The display will show the weight of that item.
- You can repeat this sequence until you are done weighing items.
When the total sum of the first item(s) on the scale > 4% of the scale’s maximum weight capacity, the Tare function is used. (4%=80 g when capacity is 2000 g; 200 g when capacity is 5000 g) The Tare function is active once the T icon appears on the upper left corner of the LCD screen.
Under this condition:
By pressing, you can see the total weight of all loads on the scale. If you want to weigh more loads, just press
to reset the LCD reading to ‘0’ again.
Auto shut off
Auto shut-off occurs if the display shows ‘0’ or shows the same weight reading for 2 minutes.
Manual shut off

Disposal (for Europe only)
The Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment A (WEEE) laws aim to minimise the impact of
electrical and electronic goods on the environment and human health, by increasing reuse and recycling and by reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill. The symbol on this product or its packaging signifies that this product must be disposed of separately from ordinary household wastes at its end of
life. Be aware that this is your responsibility to dispose of electronic equipment at recycling centres in order to conserve natural resources. Each country should have its collection centres for electrical and electronic equipment recycling. For information about your recycling drop-off area, please contact your related electrical and electronic equipment waste management authority, your local city office, or your household waste disposal service.

Amazon Basics EK3211 Digital Kitchen Scale-FAQs
How do I calibrate the Amazon Basics kitchen scale?
To calibrate the scale:
1. Turn it off and place it on a stable, flat surface.
2. Hold down the MODE and RED POWER buttons together to turn it on.
3. Wait until the display shows “CALE,” then place a 5 kg weight on the tray.
4. After 3 seconds, press the TARE button to complete calibration.
What is the maximum weight the scale can measure?
The Amazon Basics digital kitchen scale can weigh up to 11 pounds (5 kilograms), making it suitable for most cooking and baking needs.
How can I check if my scale is accurate?
Use nickels or pennies for a quick test. A new nickel weighs 5 grams, so placing a couple on the scale should give an accurate reading in multiples of 5 grams. Make sure to zero (tare) the scale first.
How does a digital kitchen scale work?
When you place an item on the scale, internal components detect pressure changes and convert that into a digital readout using a sensor and microcontroller system.
Can the Amazon Basics food scale track nutritional information like protein or calories?
No, this scale only measures weight. It doesn’t calculate nutrition data like calories, protein, or fat.
What does it mean to calibrate a digital scale?
Calibration ensures the scale gives accurate readings. It involves using a known weight to set a correct reference point for the scale’s internal sensors.
How do I know if my scale is truly accurate?
Weigh a known item multiple times. If the scale consistently shows the same reading, it’s accurate. If not, it may need calibration or may be malfunctioning.
How do I change the battery in the scale?
Remove the back cover, attach a new 9-volt battery to the terminals, and replace the cover securely. Always use alkaline batteries for best performance.
What’s the difference between a validated and a calibrated scale?
1. Calibration means the scale measures weight accurately.
2. Validation goes further, confirming the scale gives reliable results across different conditions and users, typically used in scientific or clinical settings.
What’s the width of the Amazon River?
(Not related to the scale): The Amazon River varies in width—from 4–5 km in the dry season to up to 50 km in the wet season.
