Use your Beats Solo 4

When you’re wearing your Beats Solo 4 headphones, you can use controls to play, pause, adjust volume, answer phone calls, use Siri, and more. You can also listen to lossless audio when connected to a supported device.

Charge Beats Solo 4 or Beats Studio Pro

Connect your headphones to a power outlet using a USB-C cable and a compatible power adapter.

As Beats Solo 4 charges, the light on the right earcup pulses red. When your headphones are at least 95 percent charged, the light turns white. As Beats Studio Pro charges, the five “fuel gauge” lights on the right earcup flash. When your headphones are fully charged, all five lights remain lit.

Note: When connected to a supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device using a USB-C cable, your headphones charge while you listen to audio.

Turn Beats Solo 4 on or off

  • Press and hold the power button on the left earcup for one second.

Pair Beats Solo 4 with your Apple or Android device

Pair Beats Pair Beats with an iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, or an Android device to listen to music, movies, and messages and to make and answer phone calls and FaceTime calls with compatible devices.

After you set up your Beats with one Apple device (like your iPhone), your Beats are automatically paired to your other devices where you’re signed in to the same Apple Account, so you can connect with just a tap.

After you set up your Beats with an Android device, your Beats are automatically paired to your other devices where you’re signed in to the same Google Account.

Pair Beats with iPhone or iPad

Before you begin, make sure your device has the latest version of iOS or iPadOS installed.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth, and make sure Bluetooth® is turned on.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Beats earphones: Open the case with your earbuds inside (or turn on Beats Flex), then hold it next to your iPhone or iPad.
    • Beats headphones or speaker: Turn on your headphones or speaker (or press and hold the system button on Beats Studio Pro or power button on Beats Solo 4 or Beats Pill), then hold it next to your iPhone or iPad.
  3. When the setup animation appears, follow the onscreen instructions, then tap Done (or Continue).

If you don’t see the animation-you can pair Beats with your device manually.

After you connect your Beats to your iPhone or iPad, the next time you put them on, they’ll connect automatically. You can stop Beats from connecting automatically to your iPhone or iPad.

Pair Beats with an Android device

Quickly pair supported Beats using Fast Pair or pair any Beats manually in Android settings.

  1. On your Android device, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on in Settings > Connections.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Beats earphones: Open the case with your earbuds inside, then hold it next to your device. For Beats Flex, press and hold the power button on the right control module.
    • Beats headphones: Turn on your Beats, then hold it next to your device.
    • Beats Pill speaker: Press and hold the power button until a tone sounds and the light flashes white.
  3. When the setup animation appears on your Android device, follow the onscreen instructions, then tap Done (or Continue).

If you don’t see the animation, you can pair Beats with your Android device manually.

Tip: Use the Beats app to quickly pair and manage your Beats with an Android device.

Play audio on Beats Solo 4

  1. Wear your Beats Solo 4, and make sure they’re connected to your Apple or Android device.
  2. Go to an audio app, then play something- for example, a song in the Music app Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-3 & or an episode in the Podcasts app Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-4
  3. Do any of the following on the left earcup:
    • Play and pause audio: Press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5. To resume playback, press it again.
    • Play the next track: Double-press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5.
    • Play the previous track: Triple-press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5.
    • Fast-forward through a track: Double-press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5 and hold on the second press.
    • Rewind a track: Triple-press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5 and hold on the third press.

Change the volume on Beats Solo 4

Press above and below Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5 on the left earcup to do any of the following:

  • Increase the volume: Press (or press and hold) the volume up button.
  • Decrease the volume: Press (or press and hold) the volume down button.

Listen to lossless audio on Beats Solo 4

Beats Solo 4 has a built-in digital-to-analog converter (DAC), so you can listen to lossless audio when your headphones are connected to a device with a USB-C cable or 3.5 mm audio cable.

  1. Do either of the following:
    • Connect Beats Solo 4 to a supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device using the included USB-C cable. When connected using the included USB-C cable, your headphones charge while you listen to audio.
    • Connect the included 3.5 mm audio cable to the headphone jack on Beats Solo 4 and to the input jack on your audio source (such as a synthesizer or in-flight entertainment).
    • When connected using the 3.5 mm audio cable, your headphones don’t require any battery power —you can enjoy playback without needing to charge.
  2. Make sure lossless audio is turned on for your source audio.

The Beats Solo 4 automatically turns off when you disconnect the USB-C cable.

Control Spatial Audio and head tracking on Apple devices

While wearing your supported Beats when you watch or play a supported show, movie, song, or game, or make a FaceTime call on your Apple device, Spatial Audio and head tracking create an immersive theater- like environment with sound that surrounds you.

Learn how Spatial Audio works

You can learn more about Spatial Audio when you connect supported Beats to your iPhone or iPad.

  1. Wear your supported Beats and make sure they’re connected to your iPhone or iPad.
  2. On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then tap the name of your Beats near the top of the screen.
  3. Under Spatial Audio, tap See & Hear How It Works, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Set up Personalized Spatial Audio

You can use your iPhone X or later to create a representation of your ear and head shape for Personalized Spatial Audio. Your Spatial Audio profile customizes audio to better match how you hear sound and syncs across your Apple devices with iOS 16, iPadOS 16.1, macOS 13, tvOS 16, or later, when you’re signed in to the same Apple Account.

  1. Turn on your supported Beats and make sure they’re connected to your iPhone.
  2. On your iPhone, go to Settings, then tap the name of your Beats near the top of the screen.
  3. Tap Personalized Spatial Audio, tap Personalize Spatial Audio, and then follow the onscreen instructions.

Stop using Personalized Spatial Audio

  1. Wear your Beats, and make sure they’re connected to your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings, then tap the name of your Beats near the top of the screen. Tap Personalized Spatial Audio, then tap Stop Using Personalized Spatial Audio.
    • Mac: Choose Apple menu & > System Settings, click the name of your Beats in the sidebar, then click Stop Using Personalized Spatial Audio.

To use Personalized Spatial Audio again, you can set it up on your iPhone.

Control Spatial Audio and head tracking on iPhone or iPad

You can control Spatial Audio and head tracking for each supported app in Control Center on iPhone or ¡Pad.

  1. Wear your supported Beats, and make sure they’re connected to your on iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to an audio app, then play something- for example, a song in the Music app
  3. Open Control Center, touch and hold the volume control, then tap Spatial Audio at the lower right.
  4. Tap one of the following:
    • Off: Turns off both Spatial Audio and head tracking.
    • Fixed: It turns on Spatial Audio without head tracking.
    • Head Tracked: Turns on both Spatial Audio and dynamic head tracking, allowing your Beats to pan the audio based on the position of your head in relation to your iPhone or iPad. For example, if you turn your head to the left, the audio sounds like it’s coming more from the right.

The settings you choose are saved and applied automatically the next time you use that app. For example, if you tap Fixed while listening to a song in the Music app, the Fixed setting is automatically used the next time you play a song in that app.

Note: To disable head tracking for all apps on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then tap the name of your Beats near the top of the screen. Tap Accessibility, then turn off Follow [device].

Control Spatial Audio and head tracking on Mac

You can use Spatial Audio and head tracking to make supported shows, movies, and music sound like they’re coming from all around you (on Mac computers with Apple silicon and macOS 12.3 or later). You can turn Spatial Audio and head tracking on or off for each supported app.

Note: Spatial audio isn’t available for all apps or content.

  1. Wear your Beats, and make sure they’re connected to your Mac.
  2. Click the Beats icon in the menu bar. If the Beats icon isn’t in the menu bar, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Control Center & in the sidebar. Click the pop-up menu next to Sound, then choose Always Show in Menu Bar.
  3. Choose one of the following below Spatial Audio:
    • Off: Turns off both Spatial Audio and head tracking.
    • Fixed: It turns on Spatial Audio without head tracking.
    • Head Tracked: Turns on both Spatial Audio and dynamic head tracking, allowing your Beats to pan e audio based on the position of your head in relation to your Mac. For example, if you turn your head to the left, the audio sounds like it’s coming more from the right.

Control Spatial Audio and head tracking on Apple TV 4K

You can customize the Spatial Audio settings for each supported app using Control Center on Apple TV 4K. You can also turn head tracking on or off for all apps. ((tvOS 15.1 or later is required.)

Note: Spatial Audio isn’t available for all apps or content.

  1. Wear your Beats, and make sure they’re connected to your Apple TV 4K.
  2. While watching a movie or TV show or listening to music, press and hold Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-11 to open Control Center, then navigate to the Beats icon (such as Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-9 or Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-10 ) at the top right of the screen (next to the time display).
  3. Select your Beats, select Spatial Audio, and then select an option. The settings you choose are saved and applied automatically the next time you use that app. For example, if you turn on Spatial Audio while using the Apple TV Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-12 app with your Beats, Spatial Audio automatically turns on the next time you use that app with your Beats.

Note: To disable dynamic head tracking for all apps on Apple TV 4K, go to Settings on Apple TV. Go to Accessibility > AirPods & Beats, then turn off Center Audio on TV.

Make and answer calls on Beats Solo 4

Do any of the following on the left earcup:

  • Make a call: Press and hold Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5. When you hear a chime, make your request.
  • Answer or end a call: When you receive a call, press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5. To end the call, press it again.
  • Answer a second incoming call and put the first call on hold, or switch between two active calls: Press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5.
  • Decline an incoming call: Double-pressBeats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5.
  • Mute or unmute the microphone: During a call, press Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5. To unmute, press it again.

Ask Siri on Beats Solo 4

  1. Set up Siri (if you haven’t already done so).
  2. Do either of the following:
    • Say, “Hey, Siri.”
    • Press and hold Beats Solo 4 Wireless Bluetooth On-Ear Headphones-5 on the left earcup.
  3. When you hear a chime, make your request.

Customize controls on your Beats

On an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Android device, you can change the settings for your Beats. For example, you can customize the action performed when you press and hold buttons, turn off automatic ear detection, set which microphone is active, and more. After you set up your Beats, you can adjust any of the following:

  • Press-and-hold actions for noise cancellation, Siri (or another voice assistant), and volume
  • Microphone mute/unmute actions or which earbud’s microphone is active •
  • End phone call actions • Automatic ear detection
  • Automatic play/pause and call answering (Beats Flex only)

Note: Some settings, like Call Controls, apply to all Beats, and others are just for certain Beats (like Automatic Ear Detection for Beats Fit Pro and Powerbeats Pro 2).
