Tips
- When using the coffee maker for the first time, wash it thoroughly with water and fill it only with water without coffee.
- Make at least 3 cups of coffee, discarding them (do not drink them), following the instructions below.
- Do not drink the first 3 dispensing operations of coffee, as they are necessary for enhancing the aroma of coffee at best.
- Make sure the safety valve is not oriented towards the user.
- Hand wash only without using detergents and abrasive sponges to preserve its features over time.
- Use ground coffee for Moka, that is, with a suitable grinding, and never use fine-grinding coffee.
- Never press coffee into the funnel (3).
- Mix the coffee at the end of dispensing and before pouring it into the cups.
- Store each part of the coffee maker completely dry and without closing it.
- Replace the gasket if worn. It is recommended to replace it at least once a year anyway.
- Do not beat the funnel to remove the coffee, as it might get damaged or get ovalized, jeopardizing a proper seal.
MAKING COFFEE
- Fill the heater (2) with cold water, Fig. A, up to the lower edge of the safety valve, following the amounts indicated in the table (*).

- Insert the funnel filter (3) into the heater (2), Fig. B.

- Fill the funnel filter (3) with ground coffee for Moka, without pressing it down, taking care not to leave coffee powder on the rim of the coffee maker, Fig. C.

- Screw the upper part (6) on the heater (2) and tighten well, without pressing too much and avoiding forcing the handle (7), Fig. D.

- Put the coffee maker on the heat source. In case of a flame, prevent it from going beyond the rim of the coffee unit. In case of electric/ceramic glass plate, do not use the highest heat, Fig. E.

- When the upper unit (6) is full of coffee, remove the coffee maker from the heat source.
BIALETTI INSPECTION SAFETY VALVE (1)
The Bialetti valve has been patented and designed to guarantee the use of the coffee maker in complete safety. Using the coffee maker with drinking water might entail the risk of the formation of lime scale in the hole of the valve, causing its clogging. To avoid clogging arising from lime scale, just move the small piston coming out of the valve along its axis during the normal washing operations, Fig. F. It is advisable to carry out this inspection periodically to ensure its proper operation.![]()

Bialetti Moka Espress Iconic Stovetop Espresso Maker-FAQs
Q1. How long does the Bialetti Moka Express take to brew coffee?
It usually takes about 8–10 minutes, depending on the size of the pot and your stove’s heat level.
Q2. How do you use a Bialetti Moka Express?
Fill the bottom chamber with water up to the safety valve, add medium-fine ground coffee to the filter basket without pressing it down, assemble the pot, and place it on low to medium heat. Your coffee will start bubbling up into the top chamber.
Q3. What material is the Bialetti Moka Express made of?
It is made from high-quality aluminum with a nylon handle and knob.
Q4. How much coffee should I use in a Bialetti?
Use about 1½ tablespoons (15 g) of coffee per cup size (around 6 fl oz/180 ml). Adjust to taste.
Q5. What grind size works best for Bialetti?
A medium-fine grind is recommended—slightly coarser than espresso but finer than drip coffee.
Q6. How do I know when the coffee is ready?
You’ll hear a gurgling or hissing sound, which means all the water has passed through the grounds. Remove it from the heat immediately.
Q7. What pressure does the Bialetti Moka Express use?
It brews coffee at about 1.5 bars of pressure, compared to espresso machines that use 9 bars or more.
Q8. How much caffeine is in a Bialetti brew?
A 3-cup pot makes about 200 ml of coffee, which can contain over 350 mg of caffeine if you drink the full pot.
Q9. Should I use hot or cold water in my Bialetti?
Using hot water helps keep the brewing temperature stable and reduces the risk of over-extracting or burning the coffee.
