HOW IT WORKS
The Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier uses an ultrasonic high-frequency oscillator to turn water into a superfine cool mist — tiny water particles measuring 1 to 5 microns. A built-in fan blows the mist into the air, where it evaporates to provide the required humidity.
WHAT IS RELATIVE HUMIDITY?
Relative humidity (abbreviated RH) is the ratio of the partial pressure of water vapor to the equilibrium vapor pressure of water at a given temperature. Relative humidity depends on the temperature and the air pressure. It requires less water vapor to attain high relative humidity at low temperatures. More water vapor is required to attain high relative humidity in warm or hot air.
IDEAL RELATIVE HUMIDITY LEVELS FOR DIFFERENT SITUATIONS | |
Most comfortable for bedroom or living room | 45%-65%RH |
Ideal for the patient’s room | 40%-55%RH |
Ideal for computer equipment | 45%-60%RH |
Ideal for furniture and musical instruments | 40%-60%RH |
Ideal for the library, art gallery, or museum | 40%-50%RH |
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
- Place the unit on a hard, flat surface.
- Fill the tank with clean water (cold or room temperature)
- Place the tank on the base
- Plug the unit into an AC outlet.
- Switch on the unit by pressing the “ON/OFF” button. The LED display will illuminate BLUE and the mist output will default to Level 2. The LED display also shows the current temperature and the relative humidity.
- Press the “MAX-MIN” button to adjust the mist volume from Level 1 (low) to Level 3 (high).
- Press the “ANION” button to begin generating ions, which purify the air. Ions are charged particles that bond with airborne bacteria and other contaminants. These bonded particles become heavier,
causing them to fall from the air, leaving the air cleaner, with fewer airborne contaminants. When the ionizer is on, the LED display will show a tree icon. Press the “ANION” button again to stop this function.
SETTING THE HUMIDITY
This unit can run continuously, or it can be programmed to maintain a consistent level of humidity that suits your needs.
- Press the “HUMIDITY” button once. The LED display flashes “Co” for “constant operation.” In this mode, the desired humidity level has not been programmed. The unit will generate mist constantly,
regardless of the humidity level in the room. - Press the button again to program the humidity, from 45%RH to 75%RH, in increments of 5%. Stop pressing the button when you reach your desired humidity setting. After three seconds, the desired humidity level will disappear and the display will resume showing the current humidity. The humidity icon will flash, indicating that the unit is monitoring the humidity and will adjust itself automatically to maintain your desired level of humidity.
Note: If the desired humidity is less than the current humidity, the unit will go into sleep mode and stop producing mist. If the current humidity drops below your desired level, the unit will automatically resume producing mist. - To return to the “constant operation” mode, keep pressing the “HUMIDITY” button until the LCD display shows “Co.”
TIMER SETTING
This unit has a timer that will turn off the humidifier after a specified number of hours. There are 12 timer settings, from 1 to 12 hours.
- Press the “TIMER” button. The number 1 and the letter H appear on the LCD screen, indicating that the timer is set to turn off in 1 hour.
- Continue pressing the “TIMER” button until you reach the number of hours you wish the unit to continue running.
- To turn off the timer function, continue pressing the “TIMER” button until the display shows “- – H.” At this point, the H symbol will disappear, indicating that the timer function is off.
OPTIONAL AROMATHERAPY TRAY
This unit features a built-in Aromatherapy Tray to let you diffuse your favorite scented oil. As you look at the front of the unit. Locate a small tab along the bottom, right side of the base. Pull the tab out with your right index finger. Add 2-3 drops of essential oil to the white felt pad and replace the tray. Your scented oil will be diffused for a soothing, calming effect.

AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF PROTECTION
If the water level is too low for the unit to function, the unit will beep for 3 seconds and turn itself off automatically. Refill the tank and restart the unit.
Note: Never attempt to operate the unit when the water tank is empty, as this could damage the unit.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
In areas with hard water (high concentration of calcium, magnesium, or other minerals in the water), you may notice a white powder residue on the unit, as well as scales on the surfaces of the water basin, transducer, and/or the inner surface of the water tank. Scales on the surface of the transducer will render the unit inoperable.
WE RECOMMEND:
- Use cold-boiled water or distilled water.
- Clean the transducer, water tank, and basin unit every week.
- Change the water in the water tank often to keep it fresh.
- Drain the water and allow the entire unit to dry before storing it.
CLEANING THE FILTER SYSTEM
For best results, the ceramic balls in the filter system should be cleaned after 1,000 liters of water (approximately 200 refills):
- Remove the Filter System from the tank cover.
- Submerge the Filter System in a mixture of white vinegar and water or citric acid and water for about 10-15 minutes.
- Remove the Filter System and shake it several times.
- Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
CLEANING THE TRANSDUCER
Place 5-10 drops of mild detergent on the surface of the transducer. Wait for 2-5 minutes, then brush with a soft brush. Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.
CLEANING THE BASE
Clean the water basin with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Use a soft brush if necessary. Rinse with clean water and allow to dry.

Sharper Image 204976 Digital Ultrasonic Humidifier-FAQs
How can I check if my ultrasonic humidifier is working?
Set the humidistat to a high level and place a piece of paper near the mist outlet. If the paper remains dry after a few hours, the humidifier may not be functioning properly.
How does an ultrasonic humidifier work?
Ultrasonic humidifiers use a high-frequency signal to create mechanical vibrations in water, breaking it into fine mist droplets that add moisture to the air.
How do digital humidity sensors work?
Digital humidity sensors measure moisture levels by detecting resistance changes between two metallic electrodes. The sensor then converts this data into a humidity reading.
What does ‘CO’ mean on my humidifier?
‘CO’ stands for Continuous On mode, meaning the humidifier will run without stopping. You can adjust the humidity level in 5% increments between 35% and 55%.
Why isn’t my ultrasonic humidifier producing mist?
Ensure the water tank is filled and check for clogging due to mineral buildup. Hard water deposits can block mist output and may require cleaning.
Do ultrasonic humidifiers use heat?
No, they do not use heat and remain cool to the touch, making them a safe choice for homes with children and pets.
What are the downsides of using a humidifier?
If not cleaned regularly, humidifiers can harbor bacteria and mold, which may worsen allergies and asthma by releasing contaminated mist into the air.
What type of water should I use in my ultrasonic humidifier?
Distilled water is best, as it has low mineral content and prevents mineral buildup that could clog the humidifier and affect its performance.
