No Mic Audio On PC

If other players are unable to hear you in chat on your PC, please check the following:

1. The Mic Boom Isn’t Loose in the Mic Boom Jack.

First, unplug the headset from the PC. Then, disconnect the mic boom by pulling it straight out of the headset and plug the mic boom back in, making sure you hear a ‘click’ indicating that the mic boom is connected securely. (This may take a couple of tries; if you are having difficulty plugging the mic boom back in, note the metal key alignment.) Finally, plug the headset back into the PC and try to use it in chat.

2. The Headset Works With Another Device.

If the headset’s mic still isn’t working, plug the headset into a mobile phone and try making a call. Make sure the mobile phone itself is covered, to better ensure that the phone’s internal mics do not pick up the sound instead of the headset’s mic.

If the other person was not able to hear you during that test call, continue to Step 3. If the other person was able to hear you during that test call, then the microphone itself is working properly; skip to Step 4.

3. The Mic Boom is Working Properly.

To verify the mic boom itself is functioning, you can connect it directly to a Microphone jack on a PC and perform a recording test:

  1. Disconnect the mic boom from the headset and plug it into the Microphone/Line In Jack on your PC.
  2. In Windows, right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and click ‘Recording Devices’.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-9
  3. Right-click the Microphone/Line In input that the mic boom is plugged into. If you do not see a green check next to the device, click ‘Set as Default’. When it’s the default device, click ‘Properties’.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-10
  4. Click the ‘Levels’ tab. Move the ‘Microphone’ and ‘Microphone Boost’ levels to halfway (or close to that). Then click ‘OK’.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-11
  5. On the Sound Settings screen, click the ‘Playback’ tab and make sure your Computer speakers are enabled so you can hear audio playback.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-12
  6. Open the Windows Sound Recorder by going to Start > Accessories > Sound Recorder or search for ‘Sound Recorder’.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-13
  7. Start recording, then say something or snap your fingers near the mic boom. Click ‘Stop Recording’, then you’ll be prompted to save the file.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-14
  8. Save the file to your Desktop or another convenient folder.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-15
  9. Double-click the file to open it with your media player, then listen for the sound you recorded previously.Turtle Beach Recon 50 Xbox Gaming Headset-16If you were unable to hear any sound in the recording, then the mic boom will need to be replaced. If you were able to hear the sound you recorded but the mic wasn’t working during the mobile phone test, then there may be an issue with the headset or the PC Splitter Cable if you’re using it. Please contact our Support Team for additional assistance.

4. PC Settings Are Configured Correctly.

Note: Device Names vary by Windows PC.

  1. Right-click the Speaker icon in the taskbar and click ‘Recording devices’.
  2. Right-click the Microphone/Line In input that the headset is plugged into. If you do not see a green check next to the device, click ‘Set as Default’.
NOTE: The headset will not appear as a separate device in the Playback and Recording lists.
  3. Speak into the mic to see if green bars appear next to the Microphone/Line in input.

If you do see the green bars, then the headset and mic boom are communicating with the PC properly. If other players still can’t hear you in chat, check your network connection and in-game chat settings.

Please note that some chat programs like Discord or Skype do have their own audio settings, independent of the computer’s settings. If the headset and mic seem to be working, and the computer’s settings are configured correctly, double-check that the settings for the chat program you are using are also configured correctly.

PC Microphone Volume Adjustment

In Windows 7 and Vista, you can adjust the microphone volume in the Windows Sound Settings, which can be found by doing either of the following:

  • Right-clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar and selecting “Recording Devices“.
  • Navigate to the Control Panel and selecting Hardware and Sound > Sound, then selecting the ‘Recording‘ tab.

Once at this screen

  1. Select your PC’s Line In/Microphone Input, then click the ‘Properties‘ button.
  2. When the ‘Microphone Properties‘ window appears, click the ‘Levels‘ tab. You will see two separate controls: ‘Microphone‘ and ‘Microphone Boost‘.
  3. Adjust the microphone volume to your liking.

Windows Sonic Surround Sound

Microsoft recently introduced Windows Sonic Surround Sound for Xbox One, which means that a gaming headset connected directly to the controller or to the console’s USB/Optical ports can now deliver immersive virtual surround sound.

Additionally, you’ll be able to choose between Windows Sonic for Headphones (which is free), or Dolby Atmos for Headphones (sold separately). Whatever you decide, having surround sound provides a much more in-depth experience, and even offers a competitive advantage, so make sure you give it a try.

WINDOWS SONIC SETUP

Here’s how to set up your Recon 50 headset with Xbox One’s new Surround Sound feature:
