IMUSA GAU-80345 2-Slot Electric Nonstick Arepa Maker-FAQs.

Q1. What is an arepa maker?

An arepa maker is an electric appliance designed to cook traditional cornmeal patties called arepas. It allows you to shape, heat, and cook them evenly without the need for pans, fryers, or ovens.

Q2. What can I use arepas for?

Arepas are versatile corn patties commonly eaten in Venezuela and Colombia. They can be enjoyed plain, with butter, cheese, or avocado, or split open and stuffed with meats, beans, or vegetables.

Q3. How do I know when an arepa is done?

Tap the arepa gently—if it sounds hollow, it’s ready. The outside should be golden and firm while the inside stays soft.

Q4. How long do arepas take to cook?

Cooking time depends on size and thickness, but in the IMUSA Arepa Maker, they are usually done in just a few minutes.

Q5. Do arepas need to be refrigerated?

Yes. Once cooked, arepas can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. For longer storage, you can freeze them.

Q6. Can arepas be frozen?

Absolutely. Place parchment paper between them to prevent sticking and freeze in an airtight container. Reheat in an oven or toaster oven before serving.

Q7. Why are my arepas not fluffy?

If your arepas turn out dense, the dough may not have been kneaded enough or didn’t rest long enough. Letting the dough hydrate helps create softer, fluffier arepas.

Q8. What is the coating inside the IMUSA Arepa Maker?

The IMUSA Arepa Maker has a PTFE-based nonstick coating that is PFOA-free. This prevents sticking and makes cleaning much easier.

Q9. Is IMUSA cookware safe to use?

Yes. IMUSA nonstick cookware and appliances are PFOA-free and safe when used properly. It’s best to avoid high heat and metal utensils to protect the coating.
