Setting up your dehumidifier

Preparing your dehumidifier

  • Remove the exterior and interior packing.
  • Clean the exterior surface with lukewarm water using a soft cloth.

Finding a suitable location

Note: Your dehumidifier is more efficient when in a closed room, but it can be used in a room with the doors open to dehumidify a larger area.

  • This dehumidifier is designed to be free-standing.
  • Place your dehumidifier on a solid floor that is strong enough to support it when the water tank is full.
  • The working environment should be between 41° F (5° C) and 90° F (32° C).
  • Locate the dehumidifier away from direct sunlight and sources of heat (stove, heater, radiator, and so on). Direct sunlight may affect the acrylic coating and heat sources may increase electrical consumption. Ambient temperatures below 41° F (5° C) and above 90° F (32° C) will hinder the performance of this appliance.Insignia 50-Pint Dehumidifier-suitable location

Connecting to power

  • Plug your dehumidifier into a dedicated, properly installed, grounded wall outlet. This appliance should be operated on a separate electrical circuit from other operating appliances. Do not, under any circumstances, cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord. Any questions concerning power and/or grounding should be directed toward a certified electrician or an authorized service center.
  • Do not use an extension cord with this dehumidifier. If the power cord is too short, have a qualified electrician install an outlet near the appliance. The use of an extension cord can negatively affect the dehumidifier’s performance.
  • Remove the power cord storage bracket from your dehumidifier’s water tank (on the front), then insert the power cord storage bracket into the back of your dehumidifier. The power cord storage bracket will click into place.Insignia 50-Pint Dehumidifier-power cord

Cleaning the air filter

The air filter should be cleaned after 250 hours of use or 30 days, whichever comes first. The FILTER LED indicator lights up after 250 hours of use to indicate when to clean the filter.

  1. Remove the air filter by pulling it outwards.Insignia 50-Pint Dehumidifier-air filter
  2. Wash the filter with water, then let it air dry.
  3. Reinstall the filter, then press Filter Reset.

Note: Do not splash water directly onto your dehumidifier. Doing so may cause an electrical shock, deterioration of the insulation, or rust.

Notes:

  • Clean the tank every few weeks to prevent the growth of mold, mildew, and bacteria.
  • Do not use a dishwasher to clean the tank.

CAUTION: Do not use your dehumidifier without a filter. Doing so may allow dirt and lint to damage your dehumidifier.

Storing your dehumidifier

  1. Before storing, let your dehumidifier rest for one full day so that it can air dry, then empty the water tank.
  2. Clean the grill, case, tank, and air filter.
  3. Wrap the power cord around the power cord buckle.
  4. Cover your dehumidifier with a plastic bag.
  5. Store the unit upright in a dry, well-ventilated area.

Insignia 50-Pint Dehumidifier-FAQs

How often do I need to empty the water tank?

Typically, you’ll need to empty the tank once a day or every other day, depending on humidity levels. A 50-pint dehumidifier collects around 10–20 pints per day.

Should I keep my dehumidifier running all the time?

Yes, it’s safe and effective to leave the dehumidifier running 24/7. It will automatically turn on or off based on the humidity level in your space.

Should I run the dehumidifier on high or low?

For larger rooms or high humidity, using the high fan speed setting is more effective. It helps remove moisture faster and improves air circulation.

What temperature is best for using a dehumidifier?

Dehumidifiers work best at room temperature (above 65°F or 18°C). In colder environments, the coils may freeze, reducing performance.

How do I know when the tank is full?

The unit has a full tank indicator light and will automatically shut off when the water bucket is full. You can either empty the tank manually or use a hose for continuous drainage.

Is it safe to run the dehumidifier overnight?

Yes, it’s perfectly safe to leave your dehumidifier on overnight. It will continue working as needed to maintain a comfortable humidity level.

How much space can a 50-pint dehumidifier handle?

The Insignia 50-pint model can cover up to 4,500 square feet, making it ideal for large rooms or basements. It has a 1.7-gallon water tank.

Where should I place my dehumidifier for best results?

Avoid placing it in corners or tight spaces. For maximum airflow and efficiency, position the unit away from walls and obstructions, ideally in the center of the room.

When should I turn off the dehumidifier?

Turn it off if the room temperature drops to around 65°F (18°C) or below. Cold air can cause the coils to freeze, which may damage the unit.
